Now the aunts and uncles and many othei^, who gathered there when we were young, are all gone. It gives us a strange feeling. We were glad to have a visit with Cliff Fulton this week. All sports fans know by now that he is leaving McHenry after long service in our high school. It is as a basketball coach that most will remember him. He had some interesting teams in those years, several on the edge of greatness. It always seemed that McHenry lacked just one player, usually a tall one. Cliff assured us that McHenry had been good to him and it is hard to pull up stakes when your family has taken roots in a community. It was a hard decision to make. We have been given no information as to our new basketball coach. Suppose he will be named as soon as possible. We think Cliff was trying to tell us to be kind to his successor since the material just might not be up to championship caliber next season. The Shamrocks, who have shown strength in the county league, will play two games at home this coming weekend. Waukegan will be here Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. At 1:30 Sunday the Johnsburg Tigers will be here. That should be a good pair of games to watch. Sullivan took the feature race lead away from Bill Strom of Milwaukee and then stretched out the distance to the 22nd lap when the race, had to be stopped to move the Car of Don Scorce off the track. He had tried to move around the ailing car of Geno Wagner but struck the outside wall and damaged his steering to the extent that he couldn't continue. Sullivan continued in the lead on the restart to the checkered flag and was followed by Duane Harris, Bill Strom, Bob Strunk and Bill Bohn. Harris, the leading point driver in 1965 competition, just made it around Strom for second at the wire. Heat race winners were George Uttech, Kenosha; Jr. Dodd, Waukegan; Jim Olett, Hales Corners; and Kenny Tlougan, Milwaukee. Jr. Dodd also won the 15 lap semi-feature over Bill Kline of Burlington and Lee Weslawski of East Troy, Wisconsin. In this race, Darv Nissen of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois flipped going off the backstretch with such force that he tore the front axel from his car. Nissen was not injured. In the spectator competition the cars of Tom Schweiss of Fox Lake and Harland Vix of Kenosha were roll over victims. Neither of these drivers were injured. Pop Kline of Pell Lake, Wisconsin was feature race and heat race winner in spectator cars with Ray Bush of Silver Lake, Wis. Shamrocks Win 6-4 Ball Game From Dundee --Unknown. Woman's Auxiliary to McHenry Little League was formed at a meeting held Monday, July 19, at the V.F.W. club. "The Padre" McHenry's Shamrock baseball team continued its win ing place last Sunday with a 6-4 win over Dundee. The Shamrocks started the scoring in the third inning. Tom Hynan. reached first on an error and Bill Funk, drove- bim in. Bill scored on an error by the catcher. They scored two runs in the fourth inning on an error and two hits. After two men had reached base in the sixth inning, Tim Farr hit a home run. Tom Hynan followed with a hit, took second on a passed ball, and scored on Bill Funk's hit. Dundee scored their final two runs in the seventh inning. McHenry had eight hits and Dundee had seven. Russ Cox went all the way for the win. Bill Funk went 2-5 and Clarence Adams went 2-4. Saturday the Shamrocks play host to the Waukegan Lakers with the game starting at 3:00. Sunday Johnsburg comes to town with the game starting at 1:30. Again this year the league board of directors has chosen not to enter the National League Tournament, but instead, to arrange for our own local All Star series of games. Local Athletes Big Winners In Sports Jamboree McHenry athletes came home from the Cary sectional of the Illinois Junior Sports Jamboree Saturday night proudly carrying three first place awards, six seconds, one third, four fourths, ten fifths and six sixths. The local team made a fine showing against very stiff competition from 24 other towns, according to Don Seaton who accompanied the group to Cary. Brian McCafferty won first place in the Junior Boys' 50 yard dash, Dorothy Kupstis received a first medal in the Intermediate Girls' baseball throw, and our third first place finisher was Jo Ann Freiind in the Junior Girls' high jump, but because of a three-way tie, missed the free trip to. Charleston and .was given the third place ribbon. McCafferty and KupStis are among the lucky 59 who won the expense paid trip to the state meet ,to be held at Charleston, Illinois in August. McHenry fared very well with 30 awards out of the 354 given with 25 teams, in competition. Visitors are welcome. Tigers Beat Richmond 3-2 In 13 Innings Sunday, July 18, the Johnsburg Tigers beat Richmond 3-2 in a 13 inning marathon for their fifth consecutive victory. Bill Huff and Ed Mack hooked up in a pitchers' duel which saw Richmond oj>en the scoring in the top of the sixth inning. After one out, Fehler reached on a bunt single, stole second and scored on Don Kramer's double to left center. In the Tiger's half of the seventh, they scored their only run in regulation play when Lloyd Smith smashed a long home run to right field. This ended all scoring until Richmond' came to bat in top of the 13th. With one out, Lay singled to right. The ball bounced away from the right fielder, Meyers, and when Lay tried to go to third John Hiller's wild heave allowed him to go all the way home. ^But the Tigers were not dead yet. In bottom of the 13th, John Hiller and Ted Freund led off Wegener 23 Standings Cards Giants Sox Braves .347 with walks. Schaefer's sacrifice and May's infield out brought in the tying run and Dick Kazlausky singled to drive in the winning tally. The Tigers have a busy week ahead, playing at Beloit Friday night. On Saturday they will host the Knights of St. John' (game time 3:00 p.m.) and on Sunday the Tigers travel to McHenry for a game which may decide the County league championship.
