TKACHKR MAY DISCIPLINE Gov. Otto Kerner has signed into law a House Bill that'provides tha4 in all matters relating to discipline a teacher* shall stand' in the relation of parents to the pupil. "This bill received the support of vaiious teacher organizations, as well as administrators and parents," Gov. Kerner said. "This legislation was urged, not to allow teachers to beat children, but rather to provide a defense against harassment. suits. One of the greatest hindrances to teaching is a pupil who 1 aunts a teacher's inability to enforce discipline and threatens to sue if the teacher approaches." V SwiaAt-Cuts 9*0/1 QA/omen1 by Maggie Going on a PICNIC? Pack your potato salad, sliced tomatoes, other food in pairs of foil pans. Put food in one pan: use other pan as cover. Tape pans together along edge with sturdy masking or self-sticking cloth tape. Wherever you store a VACI I M CLEANER, you usually get that musty, "vacuum cleaner" oder from the bag. But there are several ways to keep it smelling nice. Brush bag briskly inside and out with stiff brush and spray with sachet. (This also stops the cleaning odor when you're vacuuming, giving a nice flowered scent to your rooms instead). After emptying bag, put some powdered cloves on floor and vacuum it up--or drop perfumed crystals into bag. Another way is to vacuum up a handful of moth crystals. Or use your neighbor's cleaner to vacuum your bag after you've emptied it (and do vice versa for her). You can TRAIN YOUR IVY into climbing a brick wall by placing the tendrils in the grooves between bricks and plastering them with mud. By the time mud falls away, ivy will have taken roo^ in the brick. Do you keep SHORTENING that is re-usable? Well, as you know, grease picks up flavors that can be passed on to other foods that you fry in it. But you can use the metal cans that shortening comes in -- and label them (fish. French fries, meat) so you know what type of grease is in each can. Also you can use the can to fry in! Just remove the label and put it on the stove. You don't have to scrub your skillets. When cans get soiled, you just throw them away But be careful not to have the can too full of oil; when you put food in and grease starts boiling, it might overflow and cause a fire. Here's a dandy quick FRUIT BASKET to serve as appetizer or dessert this summer. Cut large oranges crosswise into halves,- Carefully scoop out pulp; dice and mix with drained canned fruit cocktail. Heap into orange shells and chill until ready to serve. (Watch for Maggie every week!) SWEET CORN STANDS Most sweet corn stands are excellent throughout Illinois, according to the. Illinois Crop Reporting Service. The condition of the crop is about normal, although most areas throughout the state need rain.
