J Thursday, August 5, 1965 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Seeiloa Three Page Fit* PISTAKEE HIGHLANDS ROSEMARY LUTZ HYatt 7-3814 WOMEN'S SOCIETY PLANS POT-LUCK SUPPER AUG. 10 V. On Wednesday, August 10, the Women's Society of Christian Service has planned a potluck supper at the church to start at 7 p.m. If you plan on attending please notify Delores Oakley and let her know what you are bringing. The ice cream social which was planned for August has been cancelled, J)ut so you won't be too disappointed the Women's Society will probably hold one next summer Just a little thought to put in back of your mind and dusted off occasionally -during the long cold winter months, especially when you begin .to think summer will never come. A Rally Day will be hel'd on Sept. 12,with a Sunday school picnic. It will be held at. the church. This is for all Ihc children and their parents. Members will be contacted very shortly on the details. The acolyte for the July 25 service was Robert Kawakara C.recters were Mr. Vanderstomple and Mr. Barth. The organist was Delores Oakley. Resident Saddened By lirothors Fussing David L. Megl^y, the fond brother of a Highland resident, John Megley, died unexpectedly Monday morning, July 26. He was ?,2 years old. Mr. Megley lived with his parents at S00 Holm, Oak Park, and was found by a neighbor in the garage, behind their home, the victim of carbon monoxide poisoning. The family had all left for work and David was apparently working on his car. He is survived by his parents, John and Ann Megley; brother, John; and three sisters. Anna, Jane Parker and Sheilia. A Requiem Mass was offered on Thursday, July 29. at St. Bernardino church, Forest. Park. Interment in Queen of Heaven cemetery. Birthday Corner Belated birthday wishes to Jim Mclnerney who celebrated his day on August 1 and to Cheri Janquart who reached her eighteenth birthday on August 3. Another late one is that of Dorothy Jenkins who celebrated her birthday yesterday, August 4. Hope all of you had a nice • day and I'm sorry I'm late with these wishes. A very happy birthday to the following: Janice Janquart on August 9, Jane Malek on the same day and to Alice Harris on August 11. Hope each of . you havex the happiest of birthdays with" many more to come'. Around the Highlands Carl and Blanche Haefliger recently returned from a wonderful trip, to Washington. One of Blanch's memorable' events was a visit to Arlington cemetery and to the. grave of President Kennedy. " She vwis very impressed with the eternal light and also with, the many visitors who still come. Another highlight was a visit to the International Eastern Star Temple. While there Blanch met Irene Novotny's sister, who was also on vacation, which only goes to prove it is a small world. I hope you've missed the couple of times the column didn't appear, last month. News is very scarce this time of year and without your help it is almost impossible to write it. I would appreciate any calls so please don't hesitate to let me know what's going on at your house. The entire Highlands was saddened by the sudden passing of Gerald J. Hettermann, of Johnsburg, and wish to express their deepest sympathy to the family. Most of us will remember Jerry for his work with the Rescue Squad and how he always found time for a kind word when out on- a call. I for one remember how gentle he was with my Mary when she caught her arm in the wringer and had to be rushed to the hospital, without him both of us .would have fallen apart. May all of the Hettermanns find peace in the good things Jerry left behind. Pat and Tony Siciliono attended the AMVET Post No. 260 installation dinner on Saturday, July 24. Tony was installed as one of the executive officers. John and JoAnn Weingart was pleased to entertain John's uncle Joe Weingart and family for the evening last week. Uncle Joe lives in Colorado and his yearly visits are long anticipated by the family. Recently returning from a wonderful ,one week Wisconsin vacation are Bob and Gerry Glubeck and family. The only disturbing event was a couple of bad storms. Donna and Jerry Clifton and kiddies just returned from a visit to Owen, Wis. They stayed at the home of Donna's parents and really enjoyed seeing the family once again. Helping Pat Siciliano to celebrate her birthday recently were: Bev. Lewandowski, Jane Malek, Tenna O'Malley, Elsi Rosenquest, Babe Koch, Jan Janquart and Barb Sisk. The following week the same group took their kiddies on an all day picnic and enjoyed a wonderful day by swimming and relaxing away from the daily routine. Get well wishes to Howie Hansen who was admitted to McHenry hospital with an eye infection. He was transfered to a Chicago hospital for further treatment.. Betty Warczak was discharged on Tuesday, July 27, from McHenry, hospital after she underwent an emergency appendectomy on the previous Thursday. Rev. John and Mrs. Atherton left Sunday, August 1, on a two week vacation. Before coming home they will stop for a visit with Mrs. Atherton's parents in Kansas and pick-up their two children who have been staying with their grandparents. ^ George and Arlene Fick and their two children, Linda and Vic, recently returned from a wonderful two week vacation in Northern 'Wisconsin. Lee and Dick Conway enjoyed a weekend visit with their son, Mike, who is going to school in Chicago and only gets home occasionally. Weeds Some of the Pistakee Highland residents on Fox Lake Road are concerned with the weeds growing in the empty lots, which is about every second or third lot. The homes on the Fox Lake Road are all well kept, and we feel it's an asset to anyone driving through, but the eye sores from the first lot on Fox Lake Road,* right off 12, to the grocery store, well, that's a ciifT ferent story. Isn't there some law that the owners must keep these SUNNYSIDE ESTATES FRAN OLSEN PHONE 385-5740 LUCKY LADIES CLUB PLANS TRIP IN SEPTEMBER The Lucky Ladies Club July meeting held at the home of Irene May was a successful party. A trip to a nearby pharmaceutical laboratory is being planned for sometime in September. This field trip, will not be confined to members of the club, but is open to all interested parties. The August 25 meeting to be held at the home of this reporter (1915 West Oakleaf Drive) will be either a demonstration or a not-luck dinner party. All are invited. Aboard For Artivets Irene and \VaIly Roy, Mel and Shirley Simmons, Hank and Claudia Ga.rn, Jim and Marge Farley, Claire and Howard Hoettels, Marge and Harold Palmer, and Dolores and Tom Hanahan were among the throng present at the Johnsburg Community Club on the evening of July 24 to help launch the new Amvets post, for which Tom Hanahan was a guest speaker. Omaha, Omaha, . . . hottest place you ever saw -- this side of the tropics - with equal humidity, and rain some part of each day. But in spite of those adversities, this reporter and entourage had as fun-filled a month as feasible, which included much swimming, for obvious reasons. Doing anything in any air-conditioned place came next, and that included much visiting, luncheoning, and partying. A scorching afternoon at the racetrack proved profitable, fun, and fatigueing. Ernie, Kim, and Erik enjoyed witnessing the largest parade Omaha has had in fifteen years, and a very versatile three ring circus. Their most constant pleasure was brought by the daily purchases from weeds cut ? None of us want to be trouble-makers, just want to keep our places nice. Thank you for giving this some attention ... Well that*s it for this-week. Hope the next column will be a little more newsy, don't forget those calls. Daddy's arrival on the Omaha scene was a screaming welcome. and Mommie's welcome back home to 1915 was a freshly painted living room. A very bright welcome. So good to be home. saved the day and possibly two houses on the afternoon of July 29 when two young boys started a brush fire in an empty lot behind the Bet tin home. Although this team of three began extinguishing the fire just moments after it had been started, it had already spread over a sizeable area. Frightening example of dry weather hazards.
