Ches. and I have a wedding anniversary this week but have no plans. Too bad our patrol officer Walter Casey was rushed to the hospital with a stomach disorder sure hope he has ' Qmaiii-Cuts Q'o/i OA/omen by M«ggl« Know the best time to PICK VEGETABLES from your garden? When the sun's energy is in the part you eat. so you get the most benefit from them. All underground crops -- carrots, beets, onions should be picked in the early morning, as the sun's energy goes from the foliage to the roots at night. Conversely, a-' bove-ground crops - - spinach, corn, beans should ' be picked in the late afternoon (energy's still in foliage). If you don't have time to finish your painting--job -- or tci clean the brushes after you are done --• STORE PAINTBRUSHES overnight in an air tight package. Wrap wet brushes in aluminum foil, folding it over the bristles and lapping it securely around the shank of the brush. These hot summer days. DON'T OVERDRESS BABIES. Even though you wish to protect babies' tender skin, keep weight of clothing to a minimum. Nothing is more unhappy and more subject to chill than a perspiring baby. Gauze diapers are especially cool and absorbent. Top baby with a mercerized cotton shirt and he's all set. When protective baby pants are worn over diapers, they should be as flexible and soft as possible. Make sure they don't bind -- use snap-on types which are airier and cooler. And mothers, resist those darling, fussy necklines and stiff, starchy fabrics. They just cause irritation to all parts of the body. A little rubbing alcohol will let you reuse PERFUME ATOMIZERS and bottles without mixing fragrances. Just fill bottles with alcohol and let stand overnight. Here's a summer salad that's as welcome as a cool shower FRUIT-CHEESE SALAD. Blend cup Roquefort cheese spread wjth 'a pint sour cream and '2 tsp. seasoned salt and put in refrigerator. Cut one cantaloupe in half, removing all seeds and cutting off rind. Cut meat into bite-sized chunks. Wash and stem 'a lb. seedless grapes. Chill fruit until ready to serve. Cut 1 head iceberg lettuce into bite-size pieces (about l'z qts.) Put in salad a quick recovery so we can see him around. THE CHURCH FOR ALU ALU FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization caD survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church, l^iey are: (1) For his- own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
