Voters Stepping Up Approval of School Bonds Disposition, 6t citizens, to approve proposed bond issues for improvement of local educational facilities, appears to be growing, according to a report from the U.S. Office of Education. Well over $3 billion of school bonds .were approved by voters in 2,100 communities throughout the land last year, for a new national record. This was $45 million more than in 1963, a year that had set the highest previous record. Bond issues proposed but defeated, also reflect the growing disposition of voters to provide financing for the badly needed new facilities. The total for last year, the Office of Education reports was $744 million. But this was a drop from the defeated record of the previous year. It was $159 million lower. During the past eight years, the period during which the Office of Education has been keeping a record of school bond issues, voters have approved $16.6 billion of $17 billion that had been proposed, for an average approval rate of 72 percent.
