Karen Soda Is Lovely Bride It was a beautiful fall wed ding that was solemnized last Saturday, Sept. 25, at St. Patr i c k ' s C a t h o l i c c h u r c h w h e n Miss Karen Soda and Mr. Ranald Klapperich exchanged nuptial vows. Rev. Fr. Beauvan officiated at the 1 o'clock Mass, celebrated in a church decorated with altar bouquets of white mums and pom poms. White bows decorated the pews. Miss Soda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Klapperich of Lincoln road. The pretty bride approached the altar' wearing a white peau dc spie, floor length gown with long train. The dress was styled with scalloped lace neckline, long, tapered sleeves and buttons extending down ,.the back, with bustle effect. Her crown held in place two tiers of shoulder length veil and she carried a bouquet "of white orchids and stephanotis. Miss Therese Hettermann oi Chicago, a close friend of the bride, acted as maid of honor and bridesmaids were Sharon Klapperich of McHenry, sister of the groom, Mary May of Woodstock, friend of the bride, and Linda Biel of Melrose Park, her cousin. They were attired identically in cranberry - colored, floor length dresses fashioned with short sleeves, V necklines and detachable overskirts. With them they wore rosebud hats with veils in a matching color and white gloves. The young ladies carried cascade bouquets of mums, pom poms and stephanotis. Kenneth Young of Janesville, Wis., served the groom as best m a n a n d g r o o m s m e n w e r e David Klapperich of McHenry, a cousin, Norman Strossner of McHenry, his brother - in - law, and Melviri May of Richmond, a friend. Mrs. Soda selected a pale g r e e n , t w o - p i e c e d r e s s w i t h which she wore matching accessories and a white orchid corsage. Mrs. Klapperich wore a kelly green dress, matching accessories and a similar corsage. Following the wedding, sixtyfive members of the bridal p a r t y , r e l a t i v e s a n d c l o s e friends gathered at the Soda home for lunch. Later, a reception for 250 guests was held at the Johnsburg Community club. F o l l o w i n g a w e e k ' s t r i p through the East, the couple will reside in Crystal Lade. Miss Soda is a 1963 graduate ol McHenry high school and attended IBM school in Chicago. She is employed at the Oaks in Crystal Lake. Wed Recently GARDEN CLUB ENTERTAINED IN WILMETTE Miss Mary Burdahl entertained the McHenry Garden club on Sept. 23 in her Wilmette home. A delicious luncheon was served at noon. Mrs. W. DeRoche was introduced as a new member. Miss Burdahl's flowers were a delight to all and the garden tools and supplies so well arranged were an inspiration to other members of the club. A-propagation bed was growing nicely and the procedure was explained. It is expected that many will be trying their hand at this interesting phase of gardening. The Oct. 20 meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Robert Petersen of McHenry Shores. Eugenia Marie Gilpin Christened Sunday Eugenia Marie was the name chosen for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gilpin when she was christened at St. Mary's church by Rev. Eugene Baumhofer last Sunday. Her sister, Mary Joan, and a friend, Richard Rosing, acted as sponsors. The new baby, who was born at McHenry hospital Sept. 16, was welcomed home by her sister, Mary Joan, and two b r o t h e r s , G e o r g e , J r . , a n d Gary. Weingart road will hold open house Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Johnsburg Community club hall at 8 p.m. in honor of their silver wedding anniversary. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. A Mass in their honor will be celebrated at St. John's church at 8 o'clock in the mmming, followed by a family dinner. Attendants at their wedding twenty-five years ago are all expected to attend. Plan Annual Fall 'Bake Sale The ladies of St. Patrick's Mothers' club are again making plans for their annual fall bake sale. Sunday, Oct. 10, will find tables ladened with uncontrolled calories in the shape of freshly baked cakes, cookies, breads and more. Mrs. Scott Wilkes, ways and means chairman, has announced that taffy apples and caramel corn will be available, as well as coffee, rolls and milk which may be purchased and eaten there. Shown, left to right, are Mrs. Herman Mass of McCillom Lake, who will be selling "wonder weeds" at Crystal Lake homes that day; Mrs. George Kunzer of Cherry Valley road, cochairman of the Farmers Market and bake sale; and Mrs. Donald Swanson of Cherry Valley road, who will be serving luncheon at the beach house, Crystal Lake. Mrs. Kunzer said this week that baked goods would be welcomed by persons outside the auxiliary. Last year, Sandra Josserand of McCullom Lake was the recipient of one of the nurse scholarships provided partially through proceeds of Holiday Hospitality Day. Once again, on Wednesday, Oct. 6th, the colorful countryside and friendly open doors of homes - on - view will welcome visitors to Holiday Hospitality Day. This popular benefit, now in its eleventh year, is the project of the women's auxiliary of the Memorial Hospital for McHenry County and regularly draws hundreds of guests to a tour of homes that have been decorated for the holidays with items made by the various work units of the auxiliary. Preparations for this festive annual event have been in the making for months and are now in the final stages of hustle and bustle as chairmen, committees and work groups of this busy 600 - member organization put the finishing touches on plans that promise to make this a particularly interesting Holiday Hospitality Day. The shuttered summer house, matching the big house of Circuit Court Judge and Mrs. James Cooney, Woodstock, in its soft green cedar siding, will be the home of Bab^s I.n Toyland a display of handknit garments for babies, and dolls, toys and games for young children. Chairman Mrs. Carle Young and her committee are also including a collection of antique dolls and toys on the lawn to enhance the early 1900's atmosphere of this gracious family home. In the Lakewood section of Crystal Lake, the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Goodrich Wilkie will beckon tour guests through its cheerful blue door. In these congenial Surroundings, co-chairmen of the Crystal Lake auxiliary unit, Mrs. Andrew Rosulak and Mrs. Robert Rosenthal, and their busy committee will create the spirit of Christmas as they decorate the Wilkie home for the holidays with the many unique and beautiful ornaments and gilts which their work group has made throughout the year. Also open in Crystal Lake will be two new houses on Coventry Lane. One of these will be filled with the auxiliary's famous "wonder woods" gathered since June in the fields and along the roadsides by Mrs. William Kelly's committee. Carefully dried and prepared for arranging, these will be available in stunning permanent designs or can be assembled in separate packets for inventive do-it-at-home arrangers. In the other home on Coventry Lane, Mrs. Irwin Burger and her gifted group will display the lovely heirloom wreaths and door swags of cones and acorns so eagerily sought each year. There will be in addition many new decorati n g i d e a s c o m b i n i n g w o o d s , metal, burlap, cones and nuts with dried materials for the holiday home. Here, too, will be seen the enchanting Field and Garden Miniatures created by Mrs. Charles Wright, onetime president of the women's auxiliary. Open, also, on Hospitality Day will be Woodstock's most familiar landmark, the historic 76-year-old Opera House. Holiday Hospitality Day festivities are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets, maps and directions will be available at the auxiliary's ow.n Gift and Thrift Shop on Dean street in Woodstock. A tempting bake sale and flourishing Farmers' Market will be in the Congregational- Universalist church next door to the shop. Home-made bread sandwiches, doughnuts and coffee will be served at the church and at the Beach House in Crystal Lake throughout the day.
