CHARLES WEINGART NAMED PRESIDENT OF LAND BANK With the trend in land costs continuing the upward climb that began in 1942, farmers are going to require lots of credit in the years ahead, H. S. Whalin told 400 guests at the Federal Land Bank association of Woodstock annual meeting last weekend. Whalin is regional manager from the Federal Land Bank of St. Louis. "Farm units will get bigger as farmers demand more land to become efficient enough to pay for machinery and other big expenses. That's where the demand for more credit comes in--to meet this expanding need," he said. During the meeting Thomas Frey, manager of the organization that serves Lake, Boone and McHenry counties,, said the cooperative paid 5172 per cent dividend on its stock. The annual report showed an increase of $11.4 million over the year-ago total. New business activity totaled $1,609,800 with 63 loans closed during the first nine months of 1965. In the election of directors, Russell Kelahan, Woodstock, was elected to fill the unexpired term of Edward Florent, president of the FLBA who died in September. Charles Head, Harvard, was re - elected to a three - year term. Anticipate Expanded Program In New Mental Health Center The new quarters for the Mental Health Center for McHenry County will be ready soon. The center leases its office space from the McHenry hospital at a very low per square foot rental charge. Open house will be held later. ' The operation of the center is proceeding smoothly. The staff has a great interest in working with the present program and expanding facilities and the program as fast as money and help are available. The philosophy of the staff and the board of .directors of the center is that no one who seeks psychiatric help should fee turned away. This is especially true since there is no qther psychiatric service in the county. The philosophy of the staff and the , board of directors of the center is that no one who seeks psychiatric help should be turned away. This is especially true since there is no other psychiatric service in the county. The number of requests for services received during the period from" January through June, 1965, reflects this "open door" policy of the center. A total of 250 sUch requests were received in this period of time, an average of more than 40 persons seeking service monthly. This rate continues at the present time. The number of children referred totaled 106. Twenty-four referrals were re-applications for services (14 children and 10 adults). By the end of June, 152 of all those persons seeking help had been seen at the center at least once; others had been referred to other resources and only thirty-nirte persons had not yet been seen. Financially, the center must raise part of the funds for its operation from the county. At least $20,000 must be raised between July 1, 1965, to June 30, 1966. More is needed to expand the psychiatric services. Financial help -from anyone interested in better mental health for McHenry county residents will assist the board and the staff to continue to improve and expand the Mental Health program. Sinkiang, west China, is the world's most remote-from-thesea nation. Its closest seaport is on the Bay of Bengal, 1,000 miles away, and over a lot of mighty rough mountains. Parts of Mexico are east of Chicago, and Los Angeles is east of Reno. A plane flying straight south from Detroit, Michigan, would miss all of South America -- on the Pacific side. Chile, South America, if superimposed on North America, would reach from Anchorage, Alaska, to Acupulco, Mexico. Rome, Italy, is on the same Latitude as Detroit, Michigan, and London, England, is 700 miles north of Chicago. Don't believe it? Get a map.
