Thursday, October 14, 1965 THE McHENHY PLAINbEALER WONDER LAKE NEWS SHAKY LOU HABTOO 658-7176 VAN SELLS GIVES BOOK REVIEW ON "NEFERTrri" Van Sells, well known radio commentator for the Waukegan radio station and also" an excellent reviewer of books, delighted her audience at the Altar and Rosary sodality of Christ the King church last Thursday evening when she presented a review of Evelyn Wells book, "Nefertiti". Van's enthusiasm in telling of the life of this most mysterious of all ancient Egyptian princesses, together with the showing of a tiny statuette of the subjec and copies of the jewelry worn in the ancient times plus pictures of the people of that, era all brought from Egypt, made one feel they wanted to read more and more of the times of ancient Egypt. Nefertiti. who, with her husband was the first believer in the theory of "one God" instead of many gods, was the molher-in-law of the famed King Tutankamen. Approximately thirty people attended the meeting. It's A Girl At The Taylors! Congratulations to Sharon and George Taylor of Highland Shores on the birth of a new daughter, Wendi Louise, born Oct. 31 at Woodstock hospital. Wendi weighed 6 lbs., 8 oz., and was 19" long at birth. She has a sister, Sherri Lynn, who is the grand old age of four. Maternal grandparents are Hank and Jerry Jahn of Lemont, 111. Paternal grandparents are Tom and Cathy Dockery of Highland Shores. Wendi also has an uncle who is much older than she -- he is six -- named Jimmie Jahn. He was delighted that it was a girl. Said he just knew it was going to be all the time (?). . Halloween Meeting TOPS members art reminded to have their masks ready for the Oct. 27 meeting when they will have a Halloween party meeting and the masks will be judged and prizes awarded. Masks must be made by the members and not purchased. You are also reminded that Dec. 15 is gradually creeping up and no excuses will be accepted regarding the pledges you have made. This will be the moment of truth night to see if you have really tried to make your pledge. It's SUNNYSIDE VILLAGE RUBY CROWLEY PHONE 885-2662 FATHER AND CLEAN PARK AREA FOR KIDDIES PLAY LaMar and his man size son worked Sunday morning on our park --- cutting down dead limbs, tall weeds and burned up a lot of sticks and brush. It was worthwhile because now the kiddies won't get lost in the woods. Traveling Spree Everyone was concerned about the whereabouts of the Judge and his wife, Genevieve, in the past couple of weeks. The Mrs. tells me they were on a traveling spree. Among the places they covered were Appleton and Ephriam, Wise., where they enjoyed the comfort of modern motels and then to Bloomington and Springfield and some more motels. On one of their stops they had the opportunity to eat at a giant smorgasbord where 2,000 people can be served. She said the food was out of this world --hush is the word as those Astronauts would never find t h e i r way. back . . . Bridal Shower Cammy Gaylord had a bridal shower at her home in honor cf her dear friends, Loretta Wiot and Don Madden of Richmond. By the time you read this they will be Mr. and Mrs. and away on a honeymoon. Village Briefs The Chester Browns entertained some of their Chicago friends over the weekend at their home with dinner out and back home for cocktails at their brand new bar. My dear husband was on the sick list last week. He is coming along pretty good and back to work. A little old bird told me Mr. Kinder is home from the hospital after having three days treatment on his leg and is doing fine. Happy to hear Ed Schultz is up and around. The Mrs. sisters and husbands stopped by for a visit on their way to Florida. The Williams family enjoyed a cookout at the State Park Sunday. Little Stevie went back to school last week after a long illness. Chris's father is as fit as a fiddle after having surgery a couple months ago. Mr. Kunkle is giving a helping hand to his son in Chicago who is building a garage. It gives the Kunkles a chance to be with the family. The Weises paid another visit to the Mrs. sisters in Milwaukee for the weekend. Their visits are quite frequent as they are a devoted family. Sewers The sewers went down in defeat--what else can I say? You name it. The Best Dick Mickleson, Ray Nolan and Elmer Pflug are the last of the trustees--that is for me to mention in my column. All we know is that we have the best when it comes to trustees. Sign I noticed our beautiful new Sunnyside sign at the entrance of our Village has been torn down--by wind or otherwise. Sure hope we can keep it up because it is very attractive. New Addition The Eichhorns are mighty proud parents these days with that new baby girl they have just added to their lovely family. They have two other children and I might add that their eldest is in kindergarten this year. I forgot to mention--the new baby's name is Renee Ellen. Farewell Party Ed and Betty Lehman attended a farewell party for some ofy their dear friends in Mt. Prospect. They are leaving Illinois to buy a motel in St. Augustine, Fla. You can be sure the Lehmans will head for Florida next year. In Illinois after a beer's for good good fun A Wherever you fish for sport--on the ocean, by the booming surf, or on some quiet country pond, it's great at the end of the day to head for a rewarding glass of beer. While you're talking over the ones that got away, or pan-frying the ones that didn't, you enjoy the hearty taste and cool refreshment only a glass of beer can give you so well. Yes, whatever your sport--bowling or strolling, golfing or gardening --a frosty glass of beer makes a naturally great accompaniment. >. UNITED STATES BREWERS ASSOCIATION, INC, put up or pay up that night, girls, and it "ain't gonna be easy". Better get with it. Only nine weeks. (Look who's talking -- I'm already about ilO lbs., behind in my pledge. How about you?) TOPS Leader -- Take Notice Don't let on that I told you but I saw a couple of your charter members at a Mount Prospect shopping center and believe me they weren't counting calories. LICENSE FEES FOR AUTOS UP FIFTY CENTS Secretary of State Paul Powell has again reminded motorists that all motor vehicle license fees have been increased 50 cents beginning with registrations'for 1966.' "It is still early in the licensing period, but we have already had to return bet weep 6,000 and 7,000 applications for corrections, and slightly more than half of the errors were the wrong fee," Mr. Powell said. o In past years, fee errors accounted for. only 10 to 15 per cent of the "go-back" mail. Secretary Powell said. He pointed out that applications which must be returned for correction result in delay for the applicant and added work and expense to the state. Mr. Powell urged .applicants to read'the new fee schedule on Hie reverse side of the application blank .before making out their checks. Passenger car fees now are S7 for car* having L'5 horsepower or less, Sll for over L'5 and not over 35 horsepower. SI7.50 for over 35 and not o\er 50 horsepower. PRICE CUT!
