SUNNYSIDE ESTATES KAREN SCHNEIDER 885-4977 TEENS ORGANIZE; PLAN SOCK HOP FOR NOVEMBER 20 The Sunnyside Estate teens are organizing a club open to all resident teens from 13-19 years of age. The current event will be a sock-hop to be held at the Zieger home at 2006 W. Grandview on Nov. 20, from 7:30-11:30 p.m. A meeting will take place before the dance starts to plan and vote on future events, dues ahd elect officers. This and all future events will be well chaperoned. The teens will be selfsupporting. There will be a small admission charge, but the refreshments will be free. I hope all of the parents will assist the teens in starting this club as much as possible. I personally applaud the teens for their efforts and wish them much success. They are all good kids--the type that are the majority--not the few who make headlines. Let's help keep it that way. Kids Christmas Party The plans for the children's Christmas party are in full swing. It will be hold at the Jphnsburg Community Club on Sunday, Dec. 5. Needless to say, the man-of-t.he-hour -- Santa Claus, will be there in person. News The demonstration held by Lucky Ladies club at the Olsen home was a success. There were eighteen women present reliving the joys of their childhood. Thank Heaven For Grandmas By the time this is in print, Grandma Lillian Hillman will probably be back home in "Milwaukee, but her mark of love of helpfulness will remain. Mrs. Hillman is the mother of Shirley Simmons and the proud grandma, of Kenny, Cindy and brand new Tim. Grandma came doWn to help Shirley during her hospital stay with Kenny and Cindy and remained when Shirley came home so she could relax and take things easy for a while. Grandma's visit was a combination of work and pleasure, but she, as all grandmas, insists it was all pleasure. God bless all grandmas!! Also on this month's meeting a candy sale will be held with Babe Koch in charge. Association News At this month's meeting of the Pistakee Highlands Association eighteen members attended. This was not enough to hold a meeting, but a few things were discussed. The audit report was made and read at this time. A new bookkeeping system will- be kept this year as suggested by the auditor. The association also has available twelve fluorescent tube lights that can be purchased, these lights are ideal for basement or work shops. They were originally purchased to be used at the community center and later found out that they were the wrong type. If there is anyone interested contact Bob Lutz at HY 7-3814. News Around ' The Highlands Kay Sielisch and Dorothy Orlowski will be working with the patients at Downey hospital two full days twice a month. They, received their assignments last week and Kay will be working in recreation and physical therapy and Dorothy will be working in occupational therapy. A Cub Scout committee meeting was held at the home of Ray Thelen on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Thirty-four boys have been lost due to the fact that there are three dens without den mothers. Four of the Highlands card playing enthusiasts played canasta at the home of Betty Zenner Thursday, Nov. 4. The other three were Dorothy Jenkins, Kay Sielisch and Phyllis Benkert. Besides cards they enjoyed a delicious lunch. A speedy recovery to a special friend of mine, Ted Kolb, who suffered a stroke on Wednesday, Nov. 3, and is confined at the Berwyn hospital. Another get-well to Betty Minton, who also suffered a Warczak's grandmother, Mrs. stroke last week and is confined at the Elmhurst hospital. We hope that everyone will try to get over for this event which is the club's annual money raiser. This year the club will receive the proceeds from the bar and the kitchen. Pizza, hot beef sandwiches and ham will be available. Music will be by the same orchestra that we had last year so we know they are very good. Friends Mourn Passing of John Verstegie, Sr. Friends of Mr. Verstege were saddei.ed to hear of his passing away on Nov. 1 in McHenry hospital following a stroke. He had resided in the Shores for the past nine years. He leaves his wife, Josephine, two sons, John, Jr., and Ronald, and five grandchildren. Mass was sung Friday morning at St. Mary's and burial was in the church cemetery. Our condolences to the family. Steve Schweikert Leaves For Texas Steve Schweikert, 19, son of Clarence and Agnes, has been inducted into the Air Force and left on Oct. 22 for Lackland Field, Texas.
