Rich Smith has been chosen as a member of the varsity basketball squad at North Central College at Naperville. The grapevine tells us that Mom and Dad, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Smith, have been invited to attend all of the home games as guests of the school. Nice, eh? Ron Gelvin, football and wrestling star at McHS, has played both offense and defense tackle for Western Illinois College at McComb on the freshman team. We will be anxious to hear more about Ron's activities. Now, that was a good start. Keep sending the news. We do like to keep track of those boys. Heh! Heh!! Bert Hagemann finally got a chance to let loose with a "Brickhouse" Friday night and was so surprised he nearly swallowed the words. The Warriors won it big over the Blue Streaks of Woodstock, 31-7. What a .difference a win,makes.. Players, coaches, students. and' everybody was in a good mood after the game. It has been a~ lean year. WIN FIRST GAME OF SEASON Reinboldt, Lossman, Harrison Score For Warriors In 31-7 Win The Warriors were a determined team Friday night as they powered their way to a convincing victory over the Blue Streaks of Woodstock. So hungry for victory were the Warriors that they scored more points in one game than they had all during the season. However, it wasn't all roses for McHenry. The Streaks were the first to score and in the process it appeared that the Warriors were going to have one of those horrible nights. Being a little too "up" for the game they made many costly errors early in the first quarter. The Woodstock touchdown brought the best out of them however and after the Streaks scored MARIAN PLAYS ST. FRANCIS ON SUNDAY NOV. 14 Now comes the basketball and wrestling seasons. Anyhow,' Chuck has done a real good job of coaching various sports over the years • and deserves much credit.' The Warrior Wrestlers will be St. Francis of Wheaton and Carmel of Mundelein stand between the Marian Hurricanes and a .500 gridiron season. Coach Tom Parsley's scrappy football squad undetakes its immediate objective -- victory over St. Francis -- at 2 p.m. this Sunday on George Harding field at Woodstock. The Hurricanes also are working to solidify a first division berth for themselves following last weekend's 28-13 victory over St. Edward. That triumph boosted Marian to a 3-3 record in the Suburban Catholic Conference. The win also made the Hurricanes' season record read three wins against five losses. John Moriarity is showing increased ability at running, and this helps, Make DeWanc's efforts more effective. Marian has two quarterbacks of about equal ability -- Jack Hester and Tom Carroll. Both can pass and both can run. Against St. Ed, Hester passed 40 yards to Wayne Motulewicz for a touchdown. He also scored on a keeper play. Mike Fogarty continues to display accuracy at placekicking. He annexed four extra points last week. Defensively Marian continues to present a strong line. Gordon Anderson again was a standout. North Suburban Football Season Comes To End at home for their first match Friday, November 19th vs. Ela- Vernon. All matches start at 6:45 p.m. unless otherwise specified. So says the schedule. Going into last week's play, the Tigers of Libertyville had sole possession of first plahe. However, a strong Crystal Lake team was alert and took advantage of every Libertyville error in fighting to a 13-7 victory. Barrington ruined any hopes of Dundee for taking a share of the title by smothering them 34-0. In other play. Cameron, 1218 S. Blackhawk, is among the nearly 700 Illniois residents enrolled this fall at the University of Denver. they were completely outclassed by the Warriors. Streaks First To Score Woodstock's score was the result of a Warrior fumble. On their second play from scrimmage, the Warriors fumbled on the Streak's 47 yard line. Two 15 yard penalties against McHenry also help the Streaks on their touchdown drive. After moving the ball to the McHenry 10, the Streaks needed three plays to hit pay dirt. With 4:24 left in the first period, the Blue Streaks led 7-0. The $^arriors took the kickoff on . their own 30 yard line. John Reinboldt ran the power sweep for 8 yards and Lossman plowed up the middle to the 41 for the first down. This was the pattern of the entire game --Reinboldt around end, Lossman up the middle. From the 41, it was Reinboldt to the 46 and again Lossman for the* first down. This drive ended when McHenry received a penalty and had the ball put back on the 47. With 31 sec. to go in the quarter, Doherty punted down to the Streak's 16* Reinboldt Intercepts From here the Streaks started another serious drive. The Streak quarterback Knox, moved his team well. Both Green and Schwebke ran well for Woodstock during this drive. Woodstock had moved the ball down to the 12 yard line before the mar&h was halted. A holding penalty against them put the ball back on the 28 where they had 1st down and 25. A Streak pass was picked off by a beautiful interception on the part of John Reinboldt. After intercepting, Reinboldt hustled his way back to the 36. Warriors Tie Score Capitalizing on the break, the hungry Warricfrs began their first touchdown march. Reinboldt carried twice, and Lossman three times in moving the ball down to the Woodstock 36 yard line. Then Reinboldt busted through a tremendous hole made by his linemen down to the Streak 23. From here Reinboldt carried twice more and Lossman twice to t 8. With 1:10 left in the hal quarterback Rich Soda handed to Reinboldt who scampered into the endzone. Doherty made, the PAT and tied the game. Reinboldt Puts Warriors Ahead Sixty seconds later the War riors were ahead. The Streaks f operating deep in their own territory had a pass intercepted by Doherty who plowed his way to the Streak 6. With 11 sfeconds left, Reinboldt scored again on the power sweep. The PAT failed. The score at half time ended 13-7. Lossman Plunges For TD The Warriors received the second half kickoff and immediately put together another scoring drive. John, a sophomore this year, carried the ball for a total yards gained of 146 yards and scored 3 touchdowns for McHenry. John will be back next year as one of the stronger returning lettermen. Full Back Rich Lossman carried the ball a number of times and scored one touchdown for McHenry. Rich was also responsible for much of the blocking interference for Reinboldt on sweeping end runs.'
