Thursday, November 18, 1965 THE McHEHRY PLAINDEALEk Section Two,P*ge : § - v S by Paul Powell Secretary of State YIELD RIGHT-OF-WAY AT HIGHWAY BARRICADES What should you do when your half of a two-lane highway is blocked by a barricade? It seems as though this question has confused some of our drivers; therefore, a new, law has been passed Iry the Illinois Legislature to clanCyjW matter -T* "You'll have to stop and yield the. right-of-way to the other larre of traffic. It's a new law." Beginning July 1, 1965, it is necessary l'or the driver whose lane is blocked to yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction, if they are within such distance as to constitute a hazard. This means that you must stop and wait until it is entirely safe to use the left side of the highway. It is no longer permissible to try to bluff the approaching driver when the barricade is on your side of the road . . . there is too much danger of ending in a tie. One word of warning to the person who has the right-ofway-- maybe the other driver -doesn't know about the new * law, so watch carefully and b* Hprepared.
