Next one came from a dear little girl from Japan, our daughter's college roommate last year. She signed it "Koz O'Shaughnessy". That Englishman (Fred Fowles) knows he has to treat us Irish right on this one day of the year. We have also notified our German wife that on St. Patrick's Day we are King For A Day. Our worry now is that she may crown us! There was a time when fights broke out all over the place on the 17th of March. Now.we see all.nationalities wearin' the green. How well we remember our mother and Uncle Walter dancing an Irish jig. The sound of the music had them on their feet in no time. We never saw our father dance and never heard him sing except on St. Patrick's Day. He would sing "The Hat Me Faather Wore" before breakfast on that one day of the year. Our green tie and all the trimmings are ready although there are some who tell us it wouldn't be necessary with the map of Ireland on our face. C.O.F. State Basketball Tourney Ended Sunday With Stamp Of Success Now that they are putting green dye in the Chicago River to aid in the celebration, we may ask our Johnsburg friends to put a little coloring in Fox River and send it down this way. And we don't mean paris green. Just as sure as St. Patrick's Day comes and goes, some newspaper will receive a letter from a disgruntled reader complaining because ^ the Irish make too much of the day. We don't think so. After all, we Irish are a timid, peace loving, downtrodden, diminishing race and like to beam forth in all our glory on that one day. So--10-'s be happy and gay on St. Patrick's Day. Northern Illini Bowmen News Over one hundred archers participated in Northern Il'ini Bowmen's "Slush" shoot invitational Sunday. Eight N.I.B. members were winners. They included, Earl Bird, third in Class B; Marty Klapperich, first and Earl Paddock, third in Class C and Nels Gustafson, second in Class D. Robert Paddock was first place winner in Junior Boys and Bob Houser, first in intermediate Free Style Class. In the women's division Jor.n Bird tied for first place in the B division and Eleanore Fieldler was first place winner in Class D. Along about 6 p.m. last Sunday a large and well pleased crowd left the McHenry High School gym after witnessing some good games and the awarding of trophies. Richard Dehn, State Court Trustee, opened the awards program by thanking the local court for heading the tourna-^ ment. He also awarded the Mc- Andrew Boys trophies for winning the Northern Illinois Courts Talent Contest. Jim (the barber) and Mom were present for the presentations. Dehn . then introduced Fred Meyer, Tournament Manager, who presented a set of sterling silver cuff links to . Joe Schmitt. One of the cuff lieks was engraved "C.O.F. 1965" TO represent the year of presentation, and th& other was engraved "1925-1965" to represent his years at the high school. Mr. Meyer thanked Mr. Schmitt for his 19 years of service to the tournament. Fred Meyer then introduced Earl Duffy, State Chief Ranger, who in turn introduced all the High Court State Court officers. Dick Tobin, High Chief Ranger, was called upon to make some brief remarks about the tournament and other events of the C.O.F. for the youth of the order. Mr. Duffy and Fred Meyer presented 1st and 2nd place team trophies and individual trophies to 1st place winners. The classes will meet e v e f y S a t u r d a y b e g i n n i n g March 27, except April 17, and conclude on June 5th. There will be a chartered bus stopping in Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Cary, and McHenry at the public schools where registered boys and girls from 7 to 14 board. The cost for the ten lessons including transportation, for YMCA members will be $9.00.
