It would be advisable for all the mothers to ..explain how painful it would be for a big hunk of iron to Hit them. I notice when I come down Lakeview they don't budge an inch until I blow the horn and then I get dirty looks. I realize times have changed but not enough to give the children the right to make drivers leave the roads. I feel this column is the best source of getting to all the mothers. We love all of our children and believe me don't wanL-anything to happen to them. Surgery Theresa Morris is home from McHenry hospital where she completed a* series of tests. Sorry to hear she is scheduled to go back in the hear future for major surgery. Hospitalized . Steven Williams is in McHenry hospital at this writing but hope nothing serious.. He fell off the toboggan and hurt his back. Meeting Nothing much to report about last week's meeting except tfiat the road situation was the main discussion and also some details about the water rights. I Ask You Did you ever go through a village and see garbage cans all over? Some people would think we came from the Ghetto but that isn't the case at all. We have very good families in oUr village and I'm sure it is an oversight on their part. Visitors The Jack Browns had company from Chicago over the weekend. They all had a big night out at a club, dancing, a few cocktails and some entertainment. Confined Dorothy Jones' son, little Mark, was stricken with a bad case of chicken pox. He was confined for a week -- here's hoping he is out of all danger by now. Weather or not All you good people are hoping this dirty snow disappears soon so we can all venture out to shop and visit. No one seems to be doing anything at this time-quiet as a mouse - One thing for sure the Judge Sengstock manages to get out to check on his property, 'no matter how bad the weather. He and his wife, Gen, will be spending all their weekends out here in the very near future. Entertained The Rowlands entertained Reverand Robert Hirsch and family at their home with a delicious dinner last Sunday. Mr. Rowland is also a pastor and teaches at McHenry high with Rev. Hirsch. Ches. and I spent the day with Pat and her lovely family last Sunday at Stonegate West, Clarendon Hills. After dinner we were entertained by little "Patty" who is studying ballet. Fitness Mrs. Mangold should be in tip-top condition these days as she is a member of the T.O.P. Club which has a lot of advantages in helping to keep fit. I will make a guess she is getting in shape for that new outfit she is planning to. purchase for Easter which isn't far away. Weekend guests Mr. and Mrs. William Dunn enjoyed a dinner at one of their favorite restaurants with Mrs. Dunn's sister and husband from Chicago while they were on a weekend visit. Visiting Son Being such a beautiful weekend Sue and Tony Novak took off to spend a few days with their son and daughter-in law in Berwyn. Accident Charles and Helen Leonard driving along on a Sunday morning on their way to church suddenly see a car coming at them. The result was a crash! Luckily no one was hurt. Poor car suffered plenty of dents "Spring has Spru POP ART CONTEST Women of McHenry County arise! Have you longed to express yourself artistically but lacked the necessary incentive? An incentive like an art contest for amateur artists only? A contest in which you can 90 ^'way out" to express your ideas? McHenry Savings and Loan is sponsoring a "Pop Art" competition exclusively for women. To qualify you need only reside in McHenry County, be over 18 years of age and be a strictly amateur artist. Professionals -- past or present -- are not eligible. Theme of the art contest is "Spring Is Sprung/' which 1 may seem pretty nebulous. But with "pop art", who needs a clear cut theme anyway? The rules are simple. Just create an original work of art which more or less suggests arrival of Spring ... or flowers ... or warm weather. Use any medium -- oils, water colors, mobiles, clay or Campbell Soup cans -- you name it. Neatness absolutely will not count. No restrictions on size, either. If you can carry it into the lobby of McHenry Savings, you can enter it. Works of art may be submitted beginning March 7 but the deadline is Friday noon, March 18. Fill out the simple entry blank when you drop off your work of art. Prizes will include a backyard barbecue, travel luggage and an aluminum patio set. Judging will be done by a team of pop art experts. Winners will be announced on March 21 -- the first business day of spring. It'll be fun and it's for women only. This means that a truck will be around to pick up all of the unwanted and unsightly items you've been meaning to get rid of, and just haven't gotten around to, if you will but put forth the effort to get them to the side of the road where our trucks can pick them up. If the weather is bad, look for the trucks on Sunday, Feb. 27. This is our opportunity to shine up our area and make it look as nice as it really is. Another note about the dogs, place your dogs under restraint. Leaving them run loose is a metiace to everyone and very annoying to those of us who have to clean up the messes they make and turning over garbage cans, which resulted in a visit to the shop. Cheer Helps Ann and Casey Zelous had visitors for a few days, his sister and husband from Melrose Park and they were in the audience while bowlktg. Casey really showed us how he can get turkeys so it would be a good idea for his sister to cheer for us often. Hospitalized Mrs. Ruth Smith has been admitted to the McHenry hospital where she will undergo a series of tests. We are hoping she will return home soon. I will try to do better next week -- call anytime strewing a path of garbage behind them, before they go on .to the next garbage* cans. Even covers don't always stop them. If they can knock them over, oftentimes the covers are knocked off and they can still make a mess. Remember, if we want decent roads, and our recent thaw was enough to make this quite evident, we must all cooperate in all these ways. Clean up your trash, get rid of unused cars (and I notice there are a great many already gone) and keep your dogs under restraint to keep them from making further mess. Woman's Club Due to the lack of attendance, the annual election of officers was postponed. It's difficult to understand the lack of attendance, beside the fact that it was a rainy night. The Woman's Club has done more for the subdivision than meets the eye and has often helped out the association. Come on gals, let's get out there next month, otherwise there are a lot of projects that will have to be discontinued. The swimming lessons, for one, proposed bicycle racks at the beach, new sand on the beach and many more that don't just happen,' or are not sent by a fairy godmother. This is the women at work, let's keep this organization going. It was brought up and suggested to have a pancake breakfast in the near future. Proceeds from the breakfast will be turned over to the association for the roads. Hostesses for the February meeting were Marge Polinski and Pearle Stineman. Tho next monthly meeting will be held Monday, March 7, in the dining room of Club Lilymoor at 8 p.m. Hostesses for the March meeting are Helen Rodde, Shirley Schuerr and Pearle Stineman. Guests Clifford and Marie Hyatt entertained their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Sunday, Feb. 6. They were. Hospitalized Friends of Richard Ernest are sorry to learn that he is back in McHenry hospital. Richard had a badly injured leg in an auto accident in May, 1964, and has been in and out of the hospital several times.
