JUNE 12 The fifth anniversary of the establishment of the First Baptist <$hurch in McHenry will be observed this Sunday, June 12. Friends and members of the church anticipate a full day of activities including a picnic on the church grounds at noon. Recreation and fellowship will follow throughout the afternoon. Evening services will be presented by the young people of the church. "The growth of the church, is the result of not only those who have joined in its membership but credit is also due to the many community friends who have been an encouragement from the very beginning", observed the pastor, Rev. Virgle Chappell. Thirty-nine persons in attendance at the first meeting have increased to a little over 200 on a record Sunday. A first unit building was constructed in 1983 and has served the rhurch to the present.- The church has three active deacons which constitute the lay-leadership of the church. William Miller is chairman along with C. Edward Erb, Jr., £nd Melvin Hicks. Rev. O. Richardson is the part-time associate pastor. A special invitation is extended to any McHenry resident who has had a part in the growth of the new church. Special recognitions will be made during all services of those who have participated in establishment of one of. -the newest churches, of our community. COtJNTY YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB PLANS FOR PICNIC The McHenry County Young Republican club met on Tuesday, May 31, at the Rumsey building in Crystal Lake. The meeting was presided over by the president, Atty. Tom Henley. Candidates for county offices who appeared and addressed them were: Vernon Kays; Ray Chirempes; Cal Skinner Jr., Ray Murphy, Eugene Brewer, John Carroll, Melvin Griebel, Edward Hall (speaking for^RLqhard Tazewell) and O. Barbara Nevil from Mineal Wells, Texas, and Charlotte Smart from Colorado Springs, Colo., will make up a part of the faculty for r Vacation Bible School at the First Baptist church this year. The Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention sponsors selected junior and senior college students each summer for a term of 10 weeks. Miss Nevil and Miss Smart will serve their first two weeks in the Bible School at the First Baptist church of McHenry which will be held from 9-12 a.m. beginning June 13. Preparations are complete for enrollment to be held Friday, June membership of the church 10, from 10 - 12 a.m. Volunteer teachers from the have been in study and preparation during the past two months for this year's school. Mrs. W. Miller is superintendent of the department for 13- 16 years old pupils. She will be assisted by Mrs. D. McMillan. A department for 11-12 year old students will be directed by Mrs. R. Miller who will be assisted by Mrs. T. Parrish and Mrs. J. Johnson. Other departments and their faculties include: 9-10 year-- Mrs. V. Chappell, Superintendent and Mrs. V .Ames and D. McMillan; 6-8 year --Mrs. L. Harper, Superintendent; Mrs. R. Darn- Miss Charlotte Smart and --Mrs. L. Mays, Superintendent; and Mrs. J. Bohl and Mi's. Miss Barbara Nevil; 4-5 year O. Richardson. A nursery will be provided for the children of the workers by Mrs. R. Spirk and Mrs. R. Lense. Activities for the school include field • trips, a picnic, handcraft, a Parents' Night on Sunday evening, June 26, at 6:30 p.m., singing and Bible and mission studies. Boys and girls, 4 through 16 years of age, who do not have a church are encouraged to attend the vacation Bible School. HONOR GRADUATE William Joseph Lay, of 1918 Rt. 12 Road, Spring Grdve, was among the seventy-eight Northern Illinois University seniors who were graduated with honors last Saturday morning at Northern's sixtyseventh annual commencement.
