The lesser peach tree borer is especially destructive and can kill a tree in three or four years if left unchecked. But boreres can be controlled without chemical sprays, according to Dr. R. H. Meyer, entomologist of the Illinois Natural History Survey. Dr. Meyer says lesser peach tree borers can be controlled by removing the damaged bark and covering the wound with easily applied liquid asphalt. Although this method is too time-consuming and expensive for use in commercial orchards, it is a practical way for homeowner^ to combat lesser peach tree borers.
