Dui> ing the year Clint, in his capacity as Lt. Governor, organized a traveling gavel. The purpose of the gavel was to encourage club members of the various clubs to visit other clubs in the division and present the gavel in unusual ways. A Kiwanis inter-club is four or more members visiting another club at the other club's regular meeting. The gavel started with the Kiwanis club of McHenry visiting the Kiwanis club of Crystal Lake and presenting it to them in a heart-shaped box on Valentine's Day. The Kiwanis club of Fox River Grove-Cary delivered the gavel back to the Kiwanis club of McHenry after it had made a complete circle of the clubs in Division 20. It was received in a 100 lb. block of ice. The removal of the gavel from the block of ice was rather messy but fun. The Kiwanis club of McHenry had this gavel mounted on a plaque and presented to Clint with this inscription: -Presented to CUnt Claypool in recognition of exceptional leadership and devote service as Lieutenant Governor, Division 20-1966;" More than seventy guests from clubs in Division 20 met with the Kiwanis club of McHenry for the presentation of the award. The presentation was part of the program of the regular installation of ofllcers and award night of the Kiwanis club of McHenry. USE THE CLASSIFIED: C.EITH A. CONSTRUCTION TOYS If your child is too young to handle tools, purchase construction toys that are glued or fitted together. If he's old enough to handle tools, be sure they're strong and durable. Check the heads of .striking tools, such as hammers and mallets, to be sure they're securely fastened. TOYS FOR THE BABY OR TODDLER . The eyes of a teddy bear, for example, should be made of cloth sewn onto the toy -- not fastened with pins. Make sure the toy is, lightweight to prevent possible injury. Buy toys made of non-brittle material -- never glass. Toys made of celluloid are also unsuitable for if they're broken, the edges are extremely sharp.
