WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois, by an ordinance adopted on September 19, 1966, did call a special election to be held in and for said City of McHenry on October 18, 1966, for the purpose of submitting to the electors of said City the following question: Shall bonds in the amount of $95,000 be issued by the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois, for the purpose of paying the cost of constructing improvements and extensions to the existing storm sewer system of said City, such bonds maturing serially $5,000 on January 1 of each of the years 1970 to 1984, inclusive, and $10,000 on January 1 of each of the years 1985 and 1986, and bearing interest at the rate of not to exceed six per cent (six per cent) per annum? and WHEREAS, the City Council of said City did cause to be given proper notice of said election by publishing notice thereof once on September 22, 1966 in The McHenry Plaindealer, being a newspaper published and of general circulation in said City, not more than thirty days nor less than fifteen days prior to the date of said election, which said notice as so published did specify the places where such election was to be held, the time of opening and closing the polls and the question to be voted upon; and WHEREAS, the City Council of said City, by proper p r o c e e d i n g s a d o p t e d a n d spread upon its records, found that all legal requirements in connection with said election were duly complied with and that a majority of the electors of said City voting at said election on said question above referred to voted in favor thereof: NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois, as follows : Section 1. DECEMBER 8, 1966 - MCHENRY PLAINDEALER - PAGE 11, SECTION 3 Twice Told Tales (Forty Years Ago) (Taken from the files of Dec. 9, 1926) The cottage at Emerald Park owned by Arthur Lassard of Chicago caught fire from the explosion of an oil stove and was practically ruined. The frame work is still standing, the whole interior of the house and its contents was burned. George Freund was the victim- of a severe accident while at his work at the Knox Motor Sales garage. He was fixing the furnace fire in the basement when the furnace exploded and he was badly burned bout the face and neck and on his hands. James Marshall of Champaign has purchased the Niesen building on Green street which he expects to remodel into a modern up to date bakery. Emil Geier has rented the building on Green street owned by John Brda where he will conduct a soft drink parlor. Members of the fire department and all those who assisted at the recent fire on Green street were invited to a banquet Tuesday evening at the Bickler hotel given by the business men's association of Green street. Henry Block, 72 years old, died at his home on John Section 8. Quite an array of useful and attractive gifts for Christmas have been made by Clarence Smith and are on display at his shop known as "Clarence's Shop" at Johnsburg. Work has begun on a new home to be constructed in the Wattles subdivision at the end of Center street for the Elmer Freund family. Miss Maurie Taylor was called to her home in Cartondale, 111., by the sudden death of her father, Ralph Taylor. A group of five young men who were one time residents of McHenry and have in the last few years drifted to other parts of the country found themselves neighbors in a different state recently and decided to celebrate Thanksgiving together. The young men were David and Leroy Kamholz, Robert Martin, Ralph Bouril and Raymond Howard. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Freund are the parents of a daughter born at the Woodstock hospital, Dec. 2. CheHni, Jr., of Allen avenue has been elected a director of the Chicago Foundrymen's association at its annual meeting held recently in Chicago. Mr. Chelini is president of Troy Brass and Aluminum Foundry Inc., Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. George Witt will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 2. Mrs. Magdalen H. Kartheiser, a summer resident of Emerald Park for forty years, passed away in Chicago last week. At St. John's church. Johnsburg. Nov. 10, Miss Betty Ann Stilling became the bride of Mr. Herbert J. Hurtt of Denver, Colo. The couple will make their home for the present near Chanute Air Force Base wherve he is stationed. Miss Barbara Irene Potter of Channel Crest, Ingleside. was married in a double ring candle light service to Mr. Lloyd Maiden Baldwin of Regner road Nov. 24 at the Community Methodist church by the Rev. J. Elliott Corbett. Appearing in Branch III court, McHenry, last Thursday, LaVerne C. Gustafson of Crystal Lake was fined $20 and $5 costs for driving too fast for conditions. Raymond Jobin of Groat Lakes paid $18 and $5 costs on a speeding charge. For the same offense, Peter M. Smith of 3716 N. St. John avenue, McHenry, was fined $20 and $5 costs. Thorhas W. Ziesk of 2616 W. Emerald court, McHenry, pleaded guilty to not having a valid driver's license after curfew. His fine was $25 and $5 costs. Two trials were held, and in both the persons charged were found guilty. Richard C. Weeks of 3415 W. John street, McHenry, paid $10 and $10 costs for passing on the right. Kenneth J. Thomas of 2610 S. Thomas court, McHenry, received the same fine for negligent driving. LeRoy G., Bedell of Columbia, Mo., was fined $15 and $5 for failure to transfer registration.
