Schopp of 607 Orchid path, McHenry, was graduated from eight weeks of recruit training at the Marino Corps Recruit Dei>ot in San Diego, Calif. He will now undergo about throe weeks of individual combat training and then, after leave at home, will report to his first Marine Corps assignment. The intensified Marine recruit training emphasizes rigid physical conditioning and survival techniques, both at sea and ashore, to develop self-confidence and endurance. Marksmanship with the M-14 rifle and 45-calibre pistol are equally stressed,and close order drill instills the traditions of Marine Corps teamwork. A thorough study of basic military subjects; hygiene; first aid and sanitation; and the customs, courtesies, history and mission of the Marine Corps serve to polish the new Marine's recruit education and prepare him to join Marine combat forces. Marine Private Charles Tomasello, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tomasello of 4714 W. Lake Shore drive, McHenry, has completed four weeks of individual combat training at this Marine Corps Base. Airman Alvin E. Otto, USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin W. Otto of 2009 N. Ringwood road, McHenry, is a crew member aboard the seaplane tender USS Salisbury Sound which is currently serving a fourth tour of duty in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. The ship provides a floating air station for Martin Marlin SP-5 seaplanes patrolling the South Vietnam coast checking suspicious junks and providing anti-submarine protection for ships of the Seventh Fleet. Crow members service tho planes, keep them fueled for missions and offer hospitality to the flight crews between missions. Belton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Belton, 514 N. Hamlin avenue, Chicago, completed a military chaplain orientation course Dec. 2 at the Army. Chaplain school, Ft. Hamifton, ^.Y. He received nine weeks of training in psychology and counseling; methods of instruction, and principles of character guidance. Instruction was also given in standard military areas such as administration, customs of the service, drill and techniques of study. Chaplain Belton, whose wife, Elizabeth, lives at 1107 \V. Rocky Beach road, McHenry. was graduated from Shawnee Mission high school, Mirriam, Kan., in 1948. He received his A.B. degree in 1952 from Bob Jones university, Greenville, S.C., his B.D. degree in 1961 from Northern Baptist seminary, Chicago, and his Th. M. degree in 1966 from Baptist Theological seminary, Rusehlikon, Switzer-1 land. Chaplain Belton was ordained an American Baptist minister in 1952 in Kansas City, Mo. Marine Private Michael L. A3C Wade Clement of 4601 Home avenue, Lakeland Park, left for California Nov. 28 after being home on leave since Nov. 9. Wade entered the Air Force in June, 1966, and after completing his basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, he was stationed at Chanuto AFB, 111., for his technical schooling. Wade is an "electrical repairman specialist", and is presently stationed at Travis AFB, near San Francisco. Sp-4 Clarence J. Adams, Jr., is serving as a cook and night baker with the 459th signal battalion at Nha Trang U.N. He left Fort Huachuca, Ariz., on Oct. 3 and spent twentythree days on the Upsure. He was advanced to SP4 on Nov. 30. The young man has rereived a letter of appreciation for his services which made the Thanksgiving dinner for the 459th signal battalion such a fine success. R.
