While these usually call for - professional treatment, you can try * rotlenstone or f i n e l y p o w d e r e d p u m i c e mixed with /aw or boiled linseed oil to a thin paste. Rub this in the direction of the £iain, wiping off with another • loth moistened \\?»h jlain linseed oil, and repeating as often as may be necessary. Q. How can I remove rubber cement stains from fabrics? A. By sponging with carbon tetrachloride, or dipping the stain into it. If the cement has hardened, rub petroleum jelly into it to loosen it, then sponge with the carbon tetrachloride. Q. How should brushes that have been used for applying shellac be cleaned? A. In denatured alcohol, then washed in hot soapsuds. Q. How can I go about shrinking colored Qottoris and linens? A. Soak the material in cold water for three to four hours. Squeeze out the water, but don't wring tell fabric. Hang the material on your clothesline or, if you have a dryer, dry it there with several dry turkish towels that will buffer the fabric as it tumble-dries. Buy non-shrlnk cottons and linens with the foreknowledge t h a t - t h e s e m a t e r i a l s w i l l shrink anywhere from one to three inches per yard. Q. How can I easily remove stains from pie dishes? A. Oven-browned stains on these dishes will usually vanish when soaked in a strong solution of borax and water. This is only one of numerous other such kitchen hints treated in my new household book. Q. Any special, easy-to-do tip for giving leather shoes a good^ shine? A. Try shining them with lemon juice, which usually does a fine job. Spread a few drops of the juice on black or -smooth tan shoes, rub briskly with a soft cloth, and you should come up with an elegant shineJ Q. How can I remove urine stains from unwashable garments? A. Sponge with lukewarm soapy wate?, then with a cloth dipped in clear, cold water. Flush the spot with a solution of one-fifth ammonia and fourfifths water, which should be followed by a wiping with another cold-water cloth. . Q. Is there any way I can add more strength to my new glassware? A. Try this: Place the glassware in a vessel of slightly salted water, letting it come to a boil slowly, then boil thoroughly, and follow by cooling slowly. The slower this is done, the more effective your results. Q. What can I do about remedying sticking drawers in chests? A. First -sandpaper the edges smooth, then varnish. The varnish seals the pores and prevents swelling and shrinking. It's a good idea, too, to varnish or paint the insides of the drawers. Q. How can I make my own paint remover? A. Use two pounds of sal soda and •/{•powid of lime in a gallon of hot water to remove old paint. Stir together, and apply to painted surface while still warm. It loosens the paint, which can then be scraped away. Q. How can I freshen a pair of suede gloves? A. By rubbing gently over them with the fine-grained side of an emery board. The care and cleaning of gloves, and other clothing, is handled in my new household manual. • Q. How can I clean brocade? A. This job is best left to a dry-cleaning e xpert. You can, however, press brocade by plating the material right side down on the ironing board and covering with a piece of thin white cloth or tissue paper. Do not dampen. Press with a warm (not hot) iron. Today kitchens sparkle with bright, easy-toclean metals, and cupboards are tilled with helpful appliances..We relax in foam-padded chairs and sleep on spring-filled mattresses. Almost every aspect of modern life is slanted toward speed and convenience. Man, with his marvelous God-created brain, has overcome many obstacles, and there seems to be no limit to his inventiveness. God has given us a world full of possibilities, and minds that constantly seek to improve our environment. But to make the most of our opportunities, we must ever develop and renew the resolute "faith of our fathers." Come to church and with others receive that heritage of inspiration and light. Copyright 1966 Koisler Advertising Service, Inc, Strasburg, V THE CHURCH FOR ALL... ... ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest foctor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spirituol values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which, needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
