LAKELAND PARK NEWS Barbara Meurer - 885-4356 Carole Humann - 385-1605 CITY COUNCIL ANNEXES AREA SUBDIVISION At the meeting of the Mc- Henry City Council on Monday evening, Dec. 5, it was decided by a unanimous vote of 8-0 by the members of the City Council to annex the subdivision of Lakeland Park-- Lakeland Shores as defined in the petition to the City of McHenry. This was accomplished by an ordinance of the council which requires no further voting on the county level. Further information will be available to residents in an issue of the Lakeland Park newsletter. Community House Schedule All bookings and cancellations for the Community House are to be made through Mrs. Jo Rizzo at 385- 2728. Wednesday, Dec. 21 - Girl Scouts, 6:30 p.m. Christmas Party About fifty ladies attended the annual Woman's Club Christmas party held at the Country Club last week and pronounced the affair a smash. Mr, and Mrs. Santa Claus attended the affair and led off the festivities with a waltz. They distributed the grab bag gifts and presented Jo Kizzo with her very own gallon jug of Elmer's glue! With luck it might even last until the next party. Mr. and Mrs. Claus were given a standing invitation to attend all future parties. • Boy Scouts Due to the Girl Scout Christmas party being held on meeting night at the Community house, the meeting will be held at Ray Rode's home on North Avenue at the usual time of 7 p.m. More boys have been attending the meetings but there is still room for anyone who is interested. Operation Santa Claus The official count was 750 wrapped gifts, and this does not include such items as a huge stack of records, several cartons of individually packaged candy, loads of books, and so many other things that I can't even remember everything. The cars w e r e p a c k e d l e a v i n g o n l y enough room for the drivers ( a n d t h a n k g o o d n e s s t h e y weren't too fat!) and the trip was on. ) Operation Santa Claus wast one huge success if only the joy and utter delirium on the part of the nurses and residents at the Dixon school were counted. They could hardly believe that so many people -were interested enough to make their Christmas a happy one. Everthing was stowed away until the big day, but this year Christmas came in two parts for all of them. Orchids to you. For without each and everyone of you the whole project would have been a groat big flop, or at best a very small success, but it was neither. It was one huge wonderful excursion into the realm of brotherly love. The gifts came from everywhere. People from Chicago responded, as did some generous souls from Antioch to say nothing of the great avalanche of gifts from Eastwood Manor, McHenry, Wonder Lake and last but far from least right here at home. Many, many more people from many, many more places also responded but here agpin memory fails me. So this will be a merry Christmas indeed, not only for the people who receive the gifts, but especially for the people who were so generous with their time and money and gifts. Thank you is such a little word, but it means so much. Note: There will be another trip to Dixon with a load of extra things that didn't fit in the car, such as boots and other raingear. So if you have anything more to give, please do in the next few days and it will be Included in the batch to be deliverd a few days before Christmas. Stork-Gram A brand new baby girl was born to Judith and Harry Peters of Crystal Lake at Woodstock hospital on Friday, Dec. 9. The pretty little miss who has been named Kelly Ann weighed in at 7 lb. 12 oz. She has a brother, Brian, who is 15 months old. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Peters of Lakeland Park and the maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs, Ed. O'Brien of Wonder Lake. Birthday Wishes Happy birthday wishes go to Michael Daurio and Joan Plucinski on Dec. 15 with Mike becoming 17. Dec. 16 has Gary Bockman celebrating his seventeeth and Kim Butler her seventh birthday. On Dec. 17 Veronica Bierman will be 11, Grandma Eckhart celebrates and Lee Hahn will be 12. Dec. 18 has Jody Ofemon celebrating her fifteenth birthday, sharing the day with Ron Braun. Mark Ketchum and his mom, Carol, both share Dec. 19 with Mark celebrating his sixth and Myrtle Sullivan also adding another year. Dec. 20 has my son, John Meurer, celebrating number 8 and Alma Slegmund and Jo Rizzo adding another year. Dec. 21 will see Kelly Flannigan turn 8 and on Dec. 22 Bill Oakford will be 8 and Tom Unnane will be 11. The best of everything to all of these people. Anniversary Wishes to Dorothea and John Zimny who will celebrate 17 years of togetherness on Dec. 17 and to Millie and Charles Pintozzi who celebrate their thirty-ninth anniversary on .Dec. 19, Girl Scouts Troop S20 At this week's meeting we voted for scribe and treasurer. The new scribe is Mary Ellen Johnson and the treasurer is Darlene Lie astro. Assistant scribe is Veronica Bierman and the assistant treasurer is Donna Humann. Then the old patrol leaders and the old scribe and treasurer gave the cords of office to the new officers. Brownie Troop 464 At the meeting of Dec. 6 the Brownies finished their C h r i s t m a s p r o j e c t s . B e t h Koch was the hostess and treated the girls to marshmallow snowmen. Mrs. Wickenkamp would like to remind the girls to bring their grab bag gift if they haven't already done so. There will be no dues collected on Dec. 20 when the girls have their Christmas party. Condolences Our deepest sympathy and that of the entire subdivision is extended to the Cina family on the death, Sunday, of Joe Cina. The Cinas moved to Sleepy Hollow several j^ars ago, but have been frequent visitors in the area. Joe was quite active in the community while they were living here and is remembered by many of the children for the annual Halloween parties which he gave for the little ones. Our sympathy is also extended to the Tibbs family on the passing last week of Sharon's father, Henry Peters, of McHenry Shores. The Tibbs family who recently moved to Colorado are staying in McHenry Shores for a short time. Strolling Titasttgh the Park With Christmas preparations beginning and every one worrying about what to buy for uncle Oscar who already has everything, the world still goes around celebrating birthdays and doing all the other common ordinary things that it always; does. A baby shower was held at the Community House in hon- ' k up to Lake Marie for, dinner with Barb and Joe Herman and the girls skunked the boys during their hot card game last Saturday. On Sunday afternoon Marion and Jim Duffy, Ed and Mickey Gladman, and Bob ^ and Gayle Laursen went to McHenry to help Bob Becker and his wife, Gerry, celebrate Bob's birthday. The Laursens were a little late, having unexpected company in the form of Ivy and Stan Lezak who were telling them all about their resort in Wisconsin. Appealing to the camped in them! Drumls had a totally unexpected call from Hong Kong at 3 af.m. last week when No. 2 son Dave put in a call. He jiad decided to take his fiv& days of rest and relaxation in Hong Kong after turning it down a week earlier. Quite a thrill to say the least and I'll bet not much sleeping was done the rest of that night. Terry Beahler had a party last Saturday in honor of her eighth birthday Which was on the following Monday. Helping her enjoy the, day were her Harper, Debbie Benes, Sandy Basel, Susie Wickenkamp and Sharon Hafer. On her actual birthday she was home with a bad cold, which is no way to celebrate. Farewell to Ann and Ben Hirshberg and her mother. Mrs. Witta, and brother, Gregory. Debbie Sjenabow celebrated her twelfth birthday by going out to dinner with her family on Sunday. They went to a restaurant in Wauconda where they feasted on ravioli and Italian bread. Makes me hungry. Cynowas entertained Danny and Judy Yearton of Crystal Lake on Saturday evening. Meg and Billy Oakford had a joint birthday celebration last Siinday. Meg's birthday was Dec. 8 when she turned 4 and Billy's birthday will be Dec. 22 when he will be 9 years old. In the evening Grandma and Grandpa Druml came from Wonder Lake and aunt Kay Druml and Dennis and Kevin made the scene and celebrated again with more cake and coffee. Lloyd and Gerry Wagner attended the Home Show last week at McCormick Place in Chicago. Now the only thing left of the holiday are a group who continues to entertain the populace with this year's version of Halloween decor. The big thing this year was T-P which was funny at the time but only a mess now, but has been joined in some instances with down right dirty work. One home was carefully decorated with T-P and then they lovingly topped off the house with a sprinkler on the rotof.
