(Catholic Youth of Johnsburg) will march from door to door to solicit funds for the current Cerebral Palsy campaign for donations. They will cover the following Areas: Johnsburg, J ak-Ana Heights, Dutch Creek Woodlands, Sunnyside Beach and Pistakee Hills. Your money will be going to a good cause bo try to be as generous as possible. These donations will stay right here in McHenry County. Any youth who has not contacted by one of the group leaders and would like to help on the drive, please be at St. John's school Sunday morning by 10 a.m. sharp. The youth group is under the capable direction of Jerry Tbbin, who has given his time most generously^ to these young people. Pancake Supper One more thing to remember -- this same group is sponsoring a pancake breakfast in the Johnsburg Community Club hall on Jan. 22 of this month following all the Masses. Your cooperation by being present will be greatly appreciated. Two-Step or Whatever Yes, whatever type of dancing you are in the habit of doing whether it be the latest, or even if It goes back a few years, you can still have fun on Jan. 14 and 28 of this month. The Jak-Ana Wrights Association will be hnHing their annual affair in the community club hall. This year's theme is of a Chinese nature. If you have attended these dances in the past you know just how much fun they can be and you certainly don't want to miss it. For tickets be sure to contact which ever member sold them to you previously. TWi is the only way to obtain tickets. On Jan. 28, St. John's Home amI School Association will come along with another of their fun evenings. This is also a yearly event and a much-looked forward to evening of fun and dancing. Plan on being there when all the fun begins in the community club hall. Lots of time and planning goes into these type of affairs, and the only way they ca be compensated is by a huge turnout Try and get a group together and have yourselves a "real ball". Newo of Oar SeiMcemen Marge and Rudy Fischer were real happy to hear their son, Rudy, was able to see Bob Hope and his troup of entertainers on their recent trip during the holidays in Viet Nam. Rudy was so close that he was able to see every thing that went on, anH I'm sure he didn't miss a trick. He received quite a few autographs from the performing stars. The Harry Freund family were thrilled beyond words when they saw Jackie's brother on television during the holiday season. There was an extensive program on his arrival home from Viet Nam, complete with his family meeting him at the airport and the drive to their home in Georgia. That certainly must have been a merry, merry Christmas for that family. Art and Isabell StilH!irr" were extremely happy to have their son home from Viet Nam for the holidays. Joe Hettermann's holiday furlough from Fort Campbell, Ky.. was a most memorable. one. He presented hit everlovin' Pat with a beautiful diamond ring. Wedding plans are a little indefinite at this time but we wish them all the happiness possible in the future. •Confined Patients What a way to spend the holidays --so says Jim Goodfellow. He entered McHenry hospital for an emergency appendectomy on . Christmas Eve. He was a pretty sick lad for several days and had to remain in the hospital longer than usual. As of the first part of this week he still hadn't returned to school. Our best get well-wishes to him. Mrs. Liz Smith was moved to the Villa home on New Year's Eve from the McHenry hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. Why not drop her a note to let her know you are hoping she gets well real fast, rm sure she would enjoy h e a r i n g f r o m h e r m a n y friends. In the lazy Christmas in Pompano Beach, Fla. The four left on Dec. 18 and stopped off in Decatur, Ga., to pick up Mrs. Tom Keenan and son, Jeff. The group went on to Florida to spend the holiday with Jack and Qllie Kee an. Tom j o i n e d t h e m e r r y m a k i n g group on Christmas eve. The young Keenans return e d home in Georgia the next Tuesday so they could welcome her parents, the Ben Blakes of McHenry, for a visit. Mary and her family stayed on to enjoy the sunshine and all the other good things that go along with a vacation in Florida. They all returned sporting envious tans. Former Resident Passes On John Hitzel, a former summer resident of 1814 River Terrace Drive, passed on Dec. 31 at the age of 104. Funeral services were, conducted on Jan. 3 with burial in Mount Carmel cemetery. He is survived by his children: Mrs. Catherine Hopp of Sunnyside Beach Drive, Mrs. Louise Callahan of River Terrace Drive, Ray Hitzel also of River Terrace drive, Mrs. Margaret Mertes and Mrs. Elenore Williams of Berwyn, John Hitzel of Chicago and Ray Hitzel of California, and Miss Elizabeth Hitzel of Chicago. We join in extending our sincere sympathies to the family of Mr. Hitzel. HoU-DasiA' Visitors in the home of Mrs. Ben A. The families of Robert Knox, Paul Hiller and Don Bentz, along with Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hiller enjoyed Christmas Day in the home of Pat and Mary Hiller. Later in the evening, Mrs. Agnes Wegener and other family members, and Pat and Mary, spent this time in the Leroy Hiller home in ftLakeland Park. V The Paul Pitzen home was filled with family on New Years Day. Their guests were Nick Pitzen, the George Hausheer family of Chicago, the Lawrence Pitzen family of Round Lake and the Ted Pitzen family of McHenry. Paul and Virginia were most happy to have tftMr daughter, Joyce,home fgS^The holidays and semester break. She returns to Alverno College on Jan. 15. Our family spent Christmas Day at home for the first time in seventeen years. My family joined us to make the holiday a memorable one. My dad, John Dehn, along with my sisters and their families were here for dinner. My brother Rich and his family came later in the day as they had dinner guests in their home also. Myother brother,' Bill, and his fiancee, visited here between the two holidays. During the holiday season Mike, Eva and Larry Schaefer and Pat and Mary Hiller, spent the evening as guests of Frank and Laura Schmitt. Mr. and Mrs. Van Kennedy were so happy to have their daughter and husband, the Sydney Smiths, and their three daughters as their P. er&onalA Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wissell and daughters, Melissa and Ann, returned to their home in Minneapolis, Minn., Monday of last week after spending the New Year's holidays with his mother, Mrs. Agnes Wissell. Mrs Anna Barron of Milwaukee, Wis., was a guest of Mrs. Eleanor Foley a few days last week. Mrs. Kathryn Dask has rehouse guests over the recent turned her teaching duties at holidays. This is a rare treat the Big Hollow school after for- them vacationing in Minneapolis, Minn., for two weeks where she was accompanied by her sister, Miss Mary Kinney. Mrs. Ann Rodenkirch returned last week from Marycrest, Kankakee, where she visited her daughter, Mrs. George Fitzgerald, and family for a week. Mrs. A. P. Freund visited her sisters at St. Joseph's Con v e n t , C a m p b e l l s p o r t , Wis., Tuesday of last week, where she was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Petitclair, of Waukegan, and her son, Del Freund, and wife of Wauconda. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Foley- and children have returnas the Smiths, reside in Long Island, New York. The family has not been entirely together for nine years. The Kennedys' o t h e r d a u g h t e r , Ar 1 e n e Brown, and her three children of Lake Zurich were also their guests. You can well imagine their holidays were very merry ones. ITie Kennedys say their family thoroughly enjoy visiting here in Johnsburg and McHenry. The Chuck^ Hiller family spent several days over Christmas with Pam's mother and other family members in Minnesota. George and Olivia Hiller were among the many fam- eyily members that gathered in ed from a trip to Pittsburgh, the community club hall for Pa., and Cleveland, Ohio, their Christmas celebration, where they visited relatives. Rog and Gloria Pechous Mr. and Mrs. Bernard and their three youngsters Blake were holiday guests of spent Christmas in Chicago their daughter, Mrs. Tom with her family. On New Keenan, and family in Deca- Year's Day the Pechous home was the scene of much celebrating. Young Roger has a birthday on Jan. 2 so all the family and friends observed his day just a day earlier. People arrived throughout the day to exte d their best wishes for a happy birthday to Roger, Jr. The Art Kattner family of Spring Grove and the Harry Mays enjoyed Christmas dinner in the May-Dehn home. Mary Hiller is one of the volunteers who spends time in Downey hospital throughout the year helping the patients. During the holidays her unit i n b u i l d i n g 1 3 4 , h e l d a Christmas party for their patients. Some of these people haven't been out of their wards for a long time, but were taken to another building at this time to enjoy the festivities. Hats off to all the helpful people like Mary who give so much of their time to such worthwhile causes. Ed and Dorothy Hettermann entertained the entire Hettermann clan in /-their home on the Toeiriay between the two holidays. Some thirty-five or so family members enjoyed their hospitality. Election for Rescue Squad At the recent meeting which the election of officers was held, the following members were voted into office; treasurer, Carl Sallaz- chief, Sy Meyrs-assistant chief, and Dick Rudolph-Captain. %' Foresters 8o Meet St. Agatha court No. 777, National Catholic Order of of Foresters, (formerly Women's Catholic Order of Foresters) will meet in the Johnsburg Community Club hail on Tuesday evening, Jan. 17. This will be the second round of the current 'card tournament. Committee for this evening will be headed by Arleen Fowler. Serving with her will be; Barbara Wagner, Frances Weingart, Lucille Smith, Dorothy Tonyan, Helen Decker Margaret Stilling and Alvina Miller. Happteeoo Corner Jan. 15 means double celebration once again in the Bill Martinec home. Bobby celebrated his birthday and Bill and Ruth chalk up another year of wedded bliss. Bob Hettermann will be in line for happy birthday wishes on Jan. 12. Many happy returns to all. Ohio Guests Mr. and Mrs. George Logsdon of Alvada, Ohio, were guests last week in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Michels. And so ends this week's news. Sorry about missing last week's deadline. Too many holidays. Someone should figure out how to separate the two and spread them about six months apart. Good idea? tur, Ga. v . Mr. and Mrs. Jack 2oia and family have returned to Minneapolis, Minn., after spends ing the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Phalin. Mrs. Carolyn Russell of River Forest visited Mrs. Eleanor Wildhagen at the McHenry hospital recently. Mr. and Mrs. leo Blake and their guests, thef Robert Bigelow family of Ft. Brother Paul, who had been in the states the past few months, spent several days with his parents, Mr. and' Mrs. Joseph Bauer, before leaving, Friday for Africa where he will resume his mission work. A reunion of the Robert Knox family was held at the James Busch home in Spring Grove on Monday, Jan. 2. Present for the happy occasion were Mrs. Robert Knox and eight of her ten children and their mates as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knox, Crystal Lake; Mr. and Mrs. James Busch and Mr. and Mrs. Wencil Stanek, Spring Grove; Messrs and Mesdames Glen Huska, Preston Harris, Ronald Meuer, Howard and John Knox, McHenry. Mrs. Ida Mueller was a guest of her sister, Mrs. Carl Lobitz, a few days this week enroute from a trip to the east to her home in San Diego, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pepping and children of Glenview were New Year's weekend visitors in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Engdahl. Robert J. Frisby and daughter, Lenore, visited Henry Quinn at the Harvard hospital Sunday. Mrs. Peter J. Schaefer entertained her twin sisters, Anna and Marie Kunze, of Chicago over the New Year's . holidays. Mrs. A. P. Freund returned Saturday from a few days visit in the home of her son, Ralph, and family in t DeForrest, Wis. and Mrs. "William Stilling and daughter, Beth Ann, of Glen Ellyn were weekend guest& of her parents, Mr. and Mr$. Mrs. Eleanor Foley, her guest, Mrs. Anna Barron, and her sons, Maurice and Martin Foley, and their wives attended the annual family get-together held at the Howard Phalin home in Winnetka on New Year's Eve. , Michael Pitzen and Dennis Leisten returned to their studies at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebr., Tuesday of last week after spending the holidays with their parents, the Ted Pitzens and Henry Leistens. Mrs. David Powers attend-" ed a christening pinner at the home of her grandson, Gerald Powers, in Woodstock, Sunday honoring her new great-grandson who was christened Patrick James on that day. Mrs. Albert Vales and son, Albert, entertained at a family gathering Sunday. Those present for dinner and social afternoon and evening were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kempfer, Albert, Debbie, Michael and Joseph of Genoa, HI., Frank Kempfer, Ringwood, Mr. and Mrs. James Glosson -and son, Jimmie, McHenry.
