S85-1M6 DOGS RUNNING LOOSE CAUSE MANY COMPLAINTS There have been so many complaints made in the last week about dogs that it has i-eally become quite a problem. Several pre-school children have been knocked down by dogs that hopefully only wanted to play, but how can they tell? Dogs that run loose at this time of the year are a particular hazard as there is little food for them to scavenge and if they do jump on people, the people, (and especially little ones) are so bundled up that they have a hard time keeping their balance. Please try to keep your dog confined. Sometimes dogs do get loose and that can't - always be helped, but the majority of loose animals are usually free to go where they these meetings. LPPOA Board Meeting The regular board meeting Will be held this evening, Wednesday, at the Community House at 8 p.m. All members are welcome to attend these mteings. Wednesday, Jan. 18 -Regular Board Meeting, 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 - Boy Scouts, f to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23- 4-H Club meeting, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 - Boy Scouts, 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday,. Jan. 25 - Little League open meeting, 8 p.m. Little League Next Wednesday evening, Jan. 25, will see the Lakeland Park Boys Baseball Club get back into the swing of things after a short vacation. The meeting starts promptly >t 8 p.m. at the Community House. Anyone interested in little League is welcome to come out and join the men. It isn't necessary to have sons in the organization or even a son. Coming up on Feb. 15 is the Baseball Club's annual roller skating party. This is a '. family affair. Parents and kids are all invited to attend. Save your pennies and get your tickets early. More information as to tickets will be available after the meet- : ing. Birthday Boys and Girls Happy birthday to Ray Cy* nowa who celebrates on Jan. 21. You're really getting up there, boy! Bill Moll claims the twenty-fifth as his special day as does little Susan Hautsinger who turns a terrific two. Jan. 27 will be a popular day with John Reining turning 15 and Carole Matthews becoming 6 years old. Alma Walsh and Katherine Kohrt also share the day but aren't telling how many. Tammy Cole is suffering with a good case of the hiumps. Earl Dowell is at McHenry hospital where he was scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. Butch Arient has been under the weather with swollen glands and a bad cold. Davie Wickenkamp is spotting a big bruised nose from an ice skating accident. Bobby Matthews is relaxing from those pesky mumps, too. Marge Gray is at McHenry hospital where she is scheduled for surgery this week. Hope thatueveryone recovers from their various ills real fast. Brownie Troop 464 • At the last meeting of the Brownie troop the girls discussed the three Be's of Brownies. These are the responsibilities that the girls have towards others and ing and sketching. Butter was the hostess and brought treats. Linda Sue Hulbert also brought treats to help celebrate her birthday. They played some games and then ended their meeting. .Girl Scoot Troop 820 The girls had a badge work meeting at Mrs. Stupey's house on Wednesday evening. They are preparing an exhibit for the Come See, Junior Program to be held in Woodstock at the high school on Saturday. The girls are working particularly on the drawing and painting badge. They did pictures that used different techniques such as sponge painting, and chalk or painthad recreation and refreshcookies and kool-aid were served by Mrs. Stupey. 4-H Club The Lakeland Merry-Makers 4-H club was called to order on Jan. 10 by Vice* President Janice Harris. We had a report from Mickey Rybak on the Christmas party. We discussed what we should get Jim Tucker. Jim Tucker was the McHenry County 4-H assistant farm advisor and he helped us make the flower boxes. We feel that he should get a gift suited for him. We voted and seconded it that we postpone it till the next meeting. We voted and seconded it that we will have two meetings per month on the second and fourth Monday each month. We had talks and demonstrations. Kevin Schultz gave one oh woodwork, Janice Harris gave a talk on candle making, and Karen Fergen on safety. A dinner was served to family members in Sterling, before an open house was „ held in Walnut. Many old friends and relatives attended the party for Aunt Eva who was celebrating her seventieth birthday. The Dowell family has had a very busy week beginning with the unexpected arrival home of Wade from his base in California. The son they were expecting was Butch who was transferred to another post. ITiis was accomplished without a leave being granted much to everyone's surprise. Earl landed in the hospital with a miserable ulcer which needs surgery so Butch got a leave anyway. He landed at O'Hare on Monday. Connie and Ronnie McDonough were able to come for the weekend too and really made it a family affair. The weekend came to a screeching halt when the beautiful cat belonging to Mary Beth and DeeBee was struck by a car in front of Dowell's house on Sunday night. The whole family was sad about the death of their cat who was a particular friend of their dog, Honey, Take heart. guys, next week will be better! It has to be.
