Pat Parsley and daughter, Laurie, were in the house whim she smelled smoke and called Mike for help. Mike called the fire department immediately, and had time to jump out the front window before flames completely engulfed the structure. Luckily nobody was hurt except for a small cut which required stitches in Mike's hand when he jumped thru the window. All the family has is. what they had on them, all their belongings are totally lost. Mrs. Hogan was visiting with her son, Harry, who is a patient in the McHenry hospital: following a siding accident on Thursday. Phyllis Ackerman went to McHenry to inform Ha of the tragedy, and immediately took her to her local doctor who treated her for shock and sent her to the Harvard hospital. Coffee was served by friends to the firemen who did such a good job. How about dropping Ha a card or two at the Harvard hospital, or stopping in to call on her, I'm sure she would really appreciate it. For the time being, Mr. Hogan is staying with Susie and Mike in the trailer. Sunday, volunteers were on hand with bulldozers and trucks to start the clean-up. North Basis Sooth All fim-loving workers of the Northen Pump Farms got together on Sunday at the Richmond Bowl, for a North versus South bowling match. I'm not sure just what fiie score was, but the North end was the victor. No hard feelings, just good fun. Men and their wives were, Gene and Ken Eppers, Mary Ann and Larry Gaylord, Joe and Bea Steinmet2, Dorothy and Walt Valentine, Dale Valentine, Bernicc and Clarence Etten, Bob and Lor Brennan, Lynn Spangler, George Madden, Bessie and Willie McDonald, Karen and Jack Kuhrt and Pauline and Ray Etten. You can be sure there Will be another fun-filled afternoon for a return match coming up. Congratulations to the victors, and thanks to the losers. Hospitalized Frank Kempfer is hospitalized in the McHenry hospital as a result of a slight stroke which he suffered on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aissen had been visiting until shortly after noon, and when Mrs. Shepard returned home shortly before two he was lying on the floor. Randolph, director of the Illinois Department of Public Safety, urges a greater public awareness of the seriousness of car thievery, particularly among Juveniles "There are two means by which we can attack the ascending rate of car theft," Randolph said. "One is provided by law, but is all too often ignored-- that of locking the auto and removing the keys to remove temptation. The second is more education for the youngster in school who is learning to drive." Randolph believes that in addition to the present instruction in car operation, youngsters should be as thoroughly drilled in protecting autos from theft as from accident. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily. immmt Mmrnm WM '-i That poor doctor! All he can hear is a thump-thumping in his -stethoscope. But parents can hear more ! They can hear their child's heart in his excited voice ... in his pounding feet ... in his noisy play. And the sounds they hear are full of happiness, and hope, and promise. In his prayers, too, parents can hear their child's heart . . . reaching confidently toward the Love and Power that grown men sometimes forget. But hearing a child's prayers is only one little gesture in the tremendous responsibility of nurturing the spiritual development of a Christian heart. Like the doctor's stethoscope it's a kind of routine checkup before we prescribe what the patient needs. The heart of a child needs religious example in generous doses which only his parents can provide. And the heart of a child needs spiritual truth, of which his family's Church is the convenient, trusted dispensary. Copyright 1967 Krister Advertising Service, Inc., Strtuburg, Va.
