Hie battalion came to Viet* nam following weeks of intensive training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. While in Vietnam the 11th Motor Transport battalion will be providing vehicles ranging from the quarter-ton mighty jeep to multi-ton tractor-trail' er trucks in suppport of the first Division. charged in November of i**'- James is the brother . of Dennis Luing, who was wounded in Viet Nam. H# hopes to see his cousin, Row* ert Luing, who is now home on furlough from Viet Nam. , Seaman Richard M. Moore, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert P. Moore of 2410 W. Country lane, McHenry, is at sea off the Virginia "Ooes participating in a week-long operation as a crewmember aboard the attack aircraft carrier Forrestal. The operation will give the newest crewmembers an opportunity to famliarlze themselves with their duties as members of shipboard divisions. The operational cruise follows a major nine-month yard period at the Norfolk Naval shipyard, Portsmouth, Va. DR. STAHLECKER HEADS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL STAFF DONALD DIEDRICH . Pvt. Donald J. Stahlecker, Jr., has been appointed chief of staff for Memorial Hospital for McHenry County. 10s appointment was made by the board of directors along with other medical staff appoints ments following Dr. Stahlecker's election by the medical staff at its annual meeting. « Dr. Stahlecker, who has practiced in Woodstock since 1958, has been vice-chief of staff for the past two years. He succeeds Dr. S. L. Ruggero, Wonder Lake, as the chief of staff. Immediate past president of the McHenry County Medical Society, Dr. Stahlecker is a member of the American Association of General Practitioners and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. As' the new chief of staff, Dr. Stahlecker continues the record of fine service to both the profession and the community which his predecessors established. ARTHUR BELLON Pvt. Arthur Bellon left the United States for Korea on Jan. 13 and is now stationed at Camp Hovey, near Seoul. Pvt. Bellon entered service Aug. 8 and took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., including auto mechanic training there. George Alan Koch, son ot Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Koch of 7618 Beach drive, Wonder Lake, recently graduated from boot training at Great Lakes Naval Training center. While there, he was recruit petty officer chief of his barracks and R.P.O.C. of the drill team. The young man now attends E.T.A. school at Great Lakes. Luing, who has been on the USS Pyro in the China seas. The call came from Q'- Hare airport, where he had just arrived. The young serviceman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Armond Luing of Carpentersville and is home on a fifteen-day furlough. He will return to San Francisco, will board his ship again in about two months and again resume duty. He has served three and one-half years and has six more months of service remaining. NAVY CORPSMAN, NEPHEW OF LOCAL WOMAN. KILLED Mrs. William J. Bolger received word last week that her nephew, Del Geise, was killed in action in Viet Nam. Del, a Navy corpsman serving with the Marine corps, was killed while engaged in "Operation Tuscaloosa". A 1965 graduate of Burlington, Wis., high school, he was a member of the football, wrestling and tennis teams and of the school chorus. The young man enlisted in the Navy in the summer of 1965. HEALTH PROTECTED Some of the many way* in which Illinois is actively protecting the health and life of its youngsters have been outlined by Dr. Franklin D. Yoder, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. In the department's program for4 preservation of life among the very young, emphasis is placed on the care of babies born prematurely. Each year about 1,600 such babies are cared for in the state's six premature centers. The program also includes ambulance service, special training of nurses, consultation services to hospitals and incubator loan service to small hospitals. The department is conducting a study on the results of German measles during pregnancy to determine, if possible, the extent of congenital malformations attributable to the disease.
