Discuss Insurance Legislation r .;,WK-C::v,y ; News About' wiir servicemen An appraisal of legislature needs concerning insurance occupies the attention of these men. Legislation to improve services offered the insurancebuying public was discussed at a special meeting of the McHenry County Association of Independent Insurance Agents last jpeek. i Members of the group, which iffas formed last July, met with Six members of the Illinois General Assembly for an exchange -Of ideas on what the needs are. ? The insurance agents, headed by Frank Low, McHenry, president, urged the legislators to Consider legislation to provide the public with greater protection through stricter laws governing the licensing of insur-. ance agents and brokers. They advocated legislation to establish much stricter driver licensing laws and to enforce those laws impartially. Don Peasley Photo John Kleine. Back: Rep. Dan Pierce, Ben Frisch, vice president; Bob Bauman, treasurer Rep. Lester Cumrningham and Rep. Tom Hanaban. Rep. George Lindbeng attended meeting but was . absent when photo "was taken. Legislators present were men who serve all or part of McHenry county and included Sen. Karl Berning, Rep. Lester Cunningham, Rep. George Lindberg, Rep. Dan Pierce, Rep. John Kleine and Rep. Tom Hanahan. Rep. Hanahan discussed the crying demand for more state funds for such areas as schools, welfare and highways. He asked the insurance men their views on .the proposed state sales tax on professional services, including doctors, lawyers and insurance men. Consensus was that the cost of insurance would be driven higher. In the case of auto insurance, for example, the problem of uninsured motorists would zoom even higher since the increased cost would make the price beyond the reach of, some drivers who need an auto for their work. Low explained the concern about licensing insurance brokers and suggested a prescribed course of study be established for those seeking a license. Tightening the exam procedure and putting an end to indiscriminate issuance of licenses to temporary agents would be another help, he said. Tighter laws on issuing charters were advocated. Several present pointed out that in the past few years few insurance companies have been chartered. "We want the public able to buy a product at a fair price that will give them proper coverage.
