The balance sheet showed over $6,000,000 in assets with some $2.5 million being in cash and over $1-3/4 million in U. S. Treasury bills. An additional $1.5 million was in receivables from various sources. Just short of $300,000 was shown as Unused motor fuel tax allotment. One surprising item showed up as an asset, the $10,000 deposit made on land for a new county court house which, it had been assumed, had been forfeited; A little over $3 million of this was taxes which had not been distributed, protested taxes awaiting court action and reserves for future distribution of delinquent taxes receivable. Balances on hand in the various funds were about $2-3/4 million. The general fund of the • county showed a balance of more than $1,800,000, a fund which had generally been assumed to be for providing additional court house facilities^ Since the audit, however, $415,000 of this has been designated for county home revamping, a project which had been declined by the voters. Expenses shown for the home were about $142,500, with about $70,000 of this coming from state funds. ft was reported that county net revenues were understated for the previous year, that ending Nov. 30, 1965, by $331,915. Hie Class Account, involving county-owned investment property, showed a loss of almost $6,000 for this year. Interest on investments for the year was shown as $70,000. With widespread contentions tfiat assessments are not equal throughout the county, it was noted that about $64,000 was spent by the supervisor of assessments and the board of review who have such *eqUtable treatment* as a major responsibility. The county board of supervisors received about $39,000, jurors almost $35,700, ami the county building and zonjtng cost was just short of $53,000. Elections accounted for $84,000, eradication of T.B. in cattle cost almost $17,500, and T.B. treatments, etc., to people^cost $75,500. The County Planning committee spent just under $13,000 while the County Building commission was listed at $6,061 not counting the $10,000 deposit on land which, it is understood, was forfeited. Water safety came in for expenses of almost $4,500. FEBRUARY 16, 1967 - McHENRY PLAIN DEALER - PAGE 5.
