INVESTMENTS IN COUNTY BANKS ARE DISCUSSED McHenry county finance committee of the county board and County Treasurer Cal Skinner, Jr., have discussed under what conditions money should be invested in the depositories designated at the January board meeting. According to a report Skinner presented at the board meeting last week, the committee has approved of the suggestion to deposit $15,000 in each bank in the county. He reported that the average interest rate on the $210,000 so invested is a little over 4.2 percent. However it was decided that an interest rate of four percent was too low' a return to the of McHenry county and since five banks of the county bid in the 4.5 percent range $750,000 was invested in these. As shown on a summary of general fund investments atotal of $45,000 was placed in Algonquin township's three banks at a rate of four percent. Another $430,000 is invested in two Chemung township banks at an average of 4.5 percent; $15,000 in one Coral township h«nk at 4 percent; another $230,000 in two Dorr township banks at an average of 3.75 percent.
