Lay them on a smooth surface, such as a table or the floor, and cover them with magazines. Leave them this way overnight or a little longer, and they will look as though they had been ironed -- which is an advantage, since plastic cannot be ironed. Q. How can I prevent the drain in my washbowl from becoming clogged with hair when I shampoo my head? A. If you'll insert a small piece of steel wool in the drain opening, it will allow the water to run through, but will catch any stray hairs. Q. How can I prevent my cooked cake icings from becoming grainy or hard? A. By adding one to one and a half teaspoonful of corn syrup to the mixture while it is cooking. Q. What is a good "quicklighting" method for use in my open fireplace? A. Try a kerosene-soaked brick. Soak a common building brick in kerosene for some time. Then when you want to kindle a fire, lay the kerosene- impregnated brick in the grate, pile fuel on it, and light a match. The brick will burn for up to forty minutes, and save kindling wood. Q. How can I stop that annoying and nerve-shattering hammering noise in a radiator? A. Place small wooden blocks under the end opposite the steam supply line. This will allow the water in it to return to the boiler. Q. How can I prevent hard candies from sticking together in a jar or box? . A. By sprinkling them with granulated sugar. Q. How can I prevent any chance of my steam iron's rusting on the bottom? A. Whenever you finish ironing and the iron is still warm, set it on several folds of waxed paper (a bread wrapper will do), and let it cool. When the iron is heated the next time, the wax paper will loosen and come off. Q. How can I prevent my cake filling from soaking into the cake I am baking? A. By sprinkling the top of each layer with powdered sugar before frosting or filling. My new household-hints book contains many other such baking and cooking tips. Q. How can I stop the creaking and squeaking of a door hinge? A. Quite often you can do this simply by rubbing over the hinge with an ordinary lead pencil. Q. How can I give hardwood floors an antiqued look? A. By adding brown shoe polish to your liquid floor wax. This idea is particularly useful in areas where the floor has faded because of being used more than other portions. ,,, U< TH CLAS TO GOOD home only. 1 seven month old male beagle. COMMITTEEMEN MEET TO PLAN FOR MONTH AHEAD The Republican committeemen of McHenry township met on Thursday evening, March 2, to plan for the months ahead. The coming township election scheduled for April 4, came in for considerable discussion. Formulation and method of campaigning was discussed at great length'. One of the more aggressive members said, "Since all candidates are Republican to one degree or another, it would behoove all of our members to campaign in such a manner that a minimum of division would occur in the Republican party, "The fact remains, however," he continued, "that all members of the so-called Independent candidates had been approached, invited and welcomed to participate as Republicans. The fact that they refused leads me to believe that they are not true Republicans." The committeemen maintain that the citizen and taxpayer of McHenry township, Republican and Democrat alike, would benefit by electing a group of township officers who will truly be answerable to the electorate. There were fourteen of the eighteen elected committeemen present when they met and decided to caucus and present this slate to the people for their approval. These men will actively campaign for their candidates. / 00 / . 00> Modern math-Savings Bond Style SB YtANS OF J Star-Spangled * * Security * If you bought ten $25 U.S. Savings Bonds, you'd pay $187.50 . . . and get back $250 at maturity.
