In recent years these Leagues have undertaken local surveys and studies of Welfare, Education and Health. They found that, the need for an enlarged Mental Health clinic is imperative and that the old££ .mentally retarded children need (acuities to make them productive members of society. Through the cooperation of agencies, schools and especially the special education program, young children with emotional problems can be located. With proper help many of the present community problems such as broken homes, delinquency and even mental illness can be prevented, the Leagues feel. This they say, cannot be accomplished without proper financing to secure adequate staff and facilities. WORKSHOP FOR DEAF New techniques for teaching multiply handicapped deaf children held the spotlight at a workshop March 17 at the Illinois School for the Dea£, Jacksonville. Teachers in special education from Al>roughout the state and nation wW.e invited to the all-day workshop, the culmination of a two-day celebration marking the formal opening of two new buildings on the ISD campus. Gov. OttoKerner officially dedicated the buildings -- a laboratory school for pre-school deaf children and youngsters with other handicaps and a new dining hall--at special ceremonies Thursday. March 16. We wish to reiterate that It Is advisable to call the funeral director of your choice promptly after death occurs, regardless of the hour of the day or night. These women, all volunteers, work on projects to augment the funds taken in during the annual Easter Seal campaign now in progress. Other projects sponsored by clubs of the county also aid the finances. Hie Easter Seal women's auxiliary of McHenry county was organized in 1963 by Mrs. Chester Gould, who served as its president until last year, when Mrs. Donald Swanson was elected. Money-making projects that have been most successfully sponsored by this organization include Round Robin bridge, also the annual sale of Christmas cards. Money raised by the auxiliary the past year has been used to purchase children's wheel chairs, several pairs of children's crutches, an electric typewriter and a 16 mm sound movie projector and screen. Another .financial endeavor has been to pay for all of the repairing and maintaining of loan pool equipment. The auxiliary also paid for the summer therapist assistant at the speech clinic. Just recently this group purchased a short wave diathermy machine. This machine is of great value at the therapy center to increase the efficiency of treatment. Currently the money-making project of the auxiliary is a luncheon and fashion show May 8. Anyone wishing to support the auxiliary by attending this event may contact Mrs. Jack Williams at Crystal Lake. In the first two weeks of the campaign for funds, an estimated $5,000 has been received. Ths is slightly behind the contributions received at the same time last year. The goal for this year is $16,000. The operating budget for the organization is $35,000 so it is necessary to reach the goal if possible by Easter Sunday. Those who have not as yet returned their contributions should take time out to do so in order to have the Easter Seal carry on its program for the benefit of diildren and adults throughout McHenry county.
