Frey and other agricultural leaders in Boone, McHenry and Lake counties start the fiftieth anniversary year celebration of the Federal Land Banks system with a dinner in Woodstock on Monday night, April 3. One reason for the celebration is to call the public's attention to the good job this country's farmers do in feeding the nation at an economical level. "Farmer etficiency is up, food prices are trending down, and production is up. One farmer fed himself and thirty-seven others last year. At the end of World War n, one farmer produced enough for himself and fourteen and one-half others. Certificates of merit to ten outstanding citizens from Bowie, McHenry and Lake counties will be presented at the banquet in recognition of their contribution to agriculture here. The ten are Donald J. Adams, Waukegan; James P. Cannell, C apron; Paul Churchill, Belvidere; Henry Edgerton, Woodstock; George Forgey, Woodstock; A. B. Mc- Connell, Woodstock; Ray Nicholas, Grayslake; Don Peasley, Woodstock; Wally Reynolds, Belvidere; and Avery Vose, Antioch. In addition, a zealously guarded award will be presented to one McHenry county farmer who will be announced at the banquet. He will receive a commemorative medal struck privately for this occasion. Only sixteen are being awarded to farers in Illinois, and Frey said he is proud that a farmer living in his area merits this special recognition. A specially made movie will be included -in the anniversary program. No formal speaking program is planned during the evening's festivities. About 100 people are expected to attend the dinner at the Woodstock EASTER SEAL CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS LAGGING Although the Easter Seal campaign for funds officially closed Easter Sunday, there is still time to send contributions to sipport this worthy organization that is a part of the McHenry County chapter of the Illinois Association for the Crippled Inc.
