MOCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE VILLAGE GIVES JUNIOR COLLEGE FAVORABLE VOTE This has certainly been a time for going to the polls, and Voters are asked to make two more trips. Last Saturday's Junior College referendum passed overwhelmingly in the village and was approved elsewhere. Locally, 117 ballots were cast ih the beachhouse between the 383-4141 hours of noon and 7 p.m., with 81 yes votes recorded against 33 no votes. Three ballots were spoiled. First voter to indicate his choice was Vic Howe and last to cast a ballot was Mrs. Ruth Radtke. Judges of election were Emma Pyritz, Carol Bateman and Marie Howe. Saturday, April 8, the beachhouse will again be open from noon until 7 p.m., and the same women will be acting in an official capacity. DEEP SYMPATHY TO THE SCHIMKE FAMILIES Sympathies are extended to Inez Schimke on the recent death of her brother, Leonard Samppala, who passed away very suddenly and was buried at Marquette, Mich., on March 17. Also to Allen and Walter Schimke whose sister, Mrs. Laura Olsen, passed away March 23 in Chicago. VISITOR Sister Mary Lewi returned to Wonder Lake for a brief visit - this past week. Although I didn't get a chance to see her in person but we did have a chance to chat cm the phone. And it was certainly nice to hear her pleasant voice again. WONDER LAKE BOY'S BASEBALL REGISTRATION Wonder Lake Boy's baseball registration will be held at the Wonder Lake fire house on Saturday, April 8, from 2 to 4p.m. The registration fee for the monor and little league (ages 8-12) is $3.00 and the fee for the pony league (ages 13 to 15) is $5.00. For those unable to register at this time, they may register at the Cristy Construction Co., 7318 E. Hancock Dr., from 9 to 5 between April 10 and the 15. LITTLE GIRL FOR VAN KANEGANS Jacqueline Van Kanegan, so named because she was born on Dad's birthday, came Into this world on March 30, and weighed in at 7 lbs. 13% ozs. SCOUTS WIN TWO AWARDS With flashing lights, ringing bells and the hum of an electric motor the boys of Scout troop 145 won a blue ribbon for their display on electricity and the Cub Scout Pack 145 won a red ribbon with their many displays on handcrafts at the recent Scout-O-Rama held in Crystal Lake on April 1. NEW OPINION ON SPECIAL ELECTION It is possible thajf'a special election to choose a village president caused by the death of Arthur J. Stuhlfeier will not be necessary. The legalities were discussed at the village board meeting held Monday, April 3, in the beachhouse. New information was given to the board for their consideration, and will be published next week. SPRING DANCE FOR CULLOM-KNOLL A few snags have developed over the possibility of holding a spring dance in May. The affair is tentatively planned by the Cullom-Knoll Association and was briefly discussed at last Sunday's meeting in the beachhouse. Mrs. Gerry Jensen served as acting secretary. It has been impossible to obtain an orchestra, but the committee is still working on this detail. ATTENTION. PARENTS! Mommas and poppas of offspring desiring to play Little League ball this year, MUST attend an organizational meeting scheduled for Monday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the beachhouse. At this time, there are no adults available for managing and coachingthe little fellas, and until there are enough to serve in these capacities, NO LITTLE LEAGUE! Parents of youngsters residing\ in Ringwood and West Shore Beach are eligible to join the league and encouraged todo so. If parents show interest in the venture, the Cullom-Knoll Association will contribute some money for the boys. Surely, there must be enough fathers interested in their sons' future, to offer a few hours a week to "get the show on the road." LAST CALL FOR FIREWOOD: There is still firewood available for those desiring . same. Logs, cut to size for fireplaces are stacked on the west side of the beachhouse and may be had,bypickingthem up. If the firewood is not claimed soon, it will be hauled away for disposal. Other items of interest from the Cullom-Knoll, will be carried as separate items. COULD BE VALUABLE A small coin of small denomination was found on the floor of the village clerk's home, and might possibly be of value. The owner may have the coin simply by giving proper identification to Carol Bateman. HOSPITALIZED Mrs. Irene Sales has been hospitalized in Woodstock since Monday of last week. The diagnosis was pneumonia, and we hope that by this reading, she has been released. Cards sent to her home would be very much appreciated. There was no word Monday morning, just how long she would be confined. Betty Kommer was certainly kept busy running to various hospitals for visitation. Her grandmother, Mrs. Carrie Gray, fell and broke her hip, some weeks ago, and was taken to Memorial Hospital for Mc- Henry County, Woodstock. Her mother, Mrs. Mallery Jones, suffered disc injury, and was possibly slated for surgery, v Both women were confined to the same hospital on the same day, but their rooms were on separate floors. Lists have been installed in the Forum and the Cullom-Knoll Inn, for the purpose of lining if> teams. Men, over 21 years of age, are asked to indicate their team preference. The first game will be held Sunday, April 16, at 1 p.m. at the beach. TEENS WILL BOWL SUNDAY Because of the township election last Tuesday, the teen club was unable to meet, but their activities have not been curtailed. FEW DAYS RESPITE The daily grind was broken for Mrs. Lorraine Blom and her son, Karl, when they spent a few days with her dad, Dewey Fricke. Young Karl was stillon* spring vacation from school. SEASON IS RUNNING OUT The bowling teams sponsored by the Cullom-Knoll Association, have less than two months of playing, but enthusiasm is still high. On March 24, Ken Ingersol racked up honors for the men with a high game of 213 and high series of 523. Honorable mention to Ray Fisher with his 514 series. Honors for women were garnered by Gerry Jensen with 164 and a 415 series. APR. 6, 1967 - PIAINDEALER - SEC. 2, PG. 7 March 31 found Del Douglas leading the crowd with a 204, Ray Fisher right behind with 203, and Ken Ingersol with a 200 plus and 554 series. TRAFFIC DEATHS Traffic deaths in Illinois for the first 15 days, of March are down 21 per centto77 fatalities, compared to 97 in the same period last year. The 1967 death toll now stands at 423, a 9 per cent decrease from the 467 traffic deaths reported during the same period last year. SPECIALIST TO SERVE RURAL AREA W DEVELOPMENT Appointment of Ernest W. Walker as Illinois rural development specialist under the Outreach program for rural areas has been announced by Eldon B. Colegrove, state director of the UJS. Farmers Home administration and chairman of the state's Technical Action panel. Mr. Walker will head a strengthened Outreach system in the state, operating through U.S. Department of Agriculture channels, to help rural communities plan development projects and search out all available sources of support. The newly named rural development specialist has served the past eight years as supervisor of the agency's operating loan and economic opportunity loan programs in Illinois. The Farmers Home administration is a USDA credit agency whose programs include credit for farm purposes, housing, and community facilities in rural areas.
