SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE IN CONSERVATION The board of directors ot the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district announced at its recent monthly meeting that two $50 scholaships are available for a conservation workshop held at Northern Illinois university at DeKalb in early July. The week long workshop covers all areas of conservation, woodland management, forestry, fish and wildlife management, study of plants and animals. These scholarships are available to any county person of high school age. Anyone interested contact the local SWCD office 338-0049. Board members also carefully reviewed plans submitted by the Illinois State Highway department for highway construction or changes within this county during 1967. These plans were given full approval as there were no major conservation problems involved. This is the first year a working agreement has been established between the Highway Department and all Illinois Soil and Water Conservation districts. Plans are also submitted to all boards of supervisors throughout the state. Under this . new agreement these two county agencies must give their full approval to any state highway plans before construction can begin. Board members remind all land owners thai the deadline for ordering trees is April 15. The SWCD provides rental of two tree planting machines, a tractor, two opeator s and technical advice and assistance by district technicians. New District co-operators are Walter Francke, George McVey, Albert Wopuchi, George Parks, Robert Kloemken, John Ronan, Kenneth M. Fiske and Robert McDowell. This brings the total to 1,304.
