Benning, Ga., April 11. He was trained in leadership, tactics of small infantry units, aftd use of infantry weapons. He also received instruction in map afrd aerial photograph reading, guerrilla warfare, and counteriinsurgency operations. EDWARD J. MILLER Sdward J. Miller, 19, son of and Mrs. Alfred B. Miller ENSIGN PAUL SCHMID, JR. Ensign Paul F. Schmid Jr.; USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul F. Schmid of 3208 W. Golfview Terrace, McHenry, 111. has completed the Aviation Officer Candidate school of the Naval Aviation schools command, Naval Air station. Pensacola, Fla. The intensive eleven-week school included instruction in naval history, justice, leadership and orientation. His training also included physical fitness, effective communications, pre-navigation and seamanship. He will now enter Flight Preparation school at the Naval Schools command in Pensacola, continuing his training in the Naval Aviation program. COUNTRY ART FAIR DEADLINE SET AT MAY 31 The May 31 registration dealine is roaring for McHenry county artists interested in entering the eleventh annual Country Art Fair to be held June 16, 17 and 18, in McHenry Junior high schosl. If McHenry county artists have not prepared their entries as yet, they are reminded that time is growing short. Mrs. D/right Wernquist, 2807 Kashmira avenue, MoHenry, is accepting registrations for three original pieces of each exhibitor and she has sent out necessary information to previous exhibitors but any new artist of the county is welcome. They may contact her for futher details. A cash award of $100 from the sponsors, woman's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital, is awaiting some artist who has created the "best of show". In addition to this, patrons' purchases have becomc quitey popular and afford a sizeable outlet for many of the creations. Last year these patrons purchased $4,240 worth of art. There is also the special sales in the gym and the silent auction which has been quite popular and now has an added new feature and aiiitional flair. The co-chairmen for the Fair, Mrs. Harry Eckland, McHenry, Mrs. James Kenton, Plstakee ;Bay, and Mrs. UgPr.^ liam/SStrofo, Crystal Lake, senT*' a special invitation to all" persons interested in working toward the success of tin 1967 fair. The next general committee meeting of the group will be May 18 in the McHenry hospital board room. Hie real work will begin shortly after this and help will be needed. Doherty • Mayor... . t Legion Award Winners r|v-f COURT BRIElf Appearing before Judge Gleason in Branch 3 court, McHenry, last Friday, James R.Pennington of DesPlainespleadedguilty to a violation of curfew and was fined $10 and $20 costs. Charles Schmidt of 6320 Highland drive, West Lake Shore Beach, paid $10 and $5 costs on a charge of no visible red light on rear of car. Raymond G. Sell of 312 Fritzsche road, Lakemoor, pleaded guilty to no state license plates and was fined $1 and $5 costs. STUDY GROUP RESUMES CLASS MONDAY NIGHTS The Americanism Study group will resume classes with a six-week study course, using the "Two Worlds" film strips as material for discussion. The weekly meetings will be ' held every Monday evening at the McHenry Community high school in Room 122. They will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. to allow some time for discussion and dismissal by 10 p.m- It is hoped that many new members will join to review thdir history and become more patriotic and appreciative of the American system of government along with CapitaUsm ai opposed to Communism.
