I have had several calls during the recent week or so as to what can be done to remedy the dog problem. Neighbors who do not think enough of their pets to allow them to roam around the neighborhood to bother other people's pets and damage their lawns and shrubbery, really shouldn't have a pet. Jeanette Everett is an animal lover as I am, and she wrote the following for me to add tothe column. I - join her in the following,- written by Jeanette; "The following article is being written to ask the cooperation of the citizens in Ringwood who allow their dogs and cats to run loose. It came about because of an anonymous telephone call I received requesting I do something about my barking dogs. Because I do not wi^h my dogs to be a nuisance to the neighbors, I was and will con-1 tinue to be as co-operative as I possibly can. However, I am finding this extremely difficult to do as four loose dogs and numerous cats spend a good deal of time romping by our yard and fields, and rummaging through accumulated garbage in surrounding areas. We spent a considerable amount of money providing restraining facilities far our dogs so they would receive fresh air and exercise without being allowed to wet on Our neighbors evergreens, porches or mess in their yards. I would hate to think it was in vain and they must face being confined to the house. The latter relieves the neighbors but dot me, as they then dash from window to window to see where weir more fortunate or should I &ay neglected friends are going. 'f-1 realize only too well that 'tjccasiorisflly a dog win break jlpose or slip out the door, but ;Juch accidents do not happen day 658-9045 after day. As for myself, I would be most grateful ofbeing informed that one of mine was loose. I am hoping that the owners of these free running cats and dogs will feel the same and • confine their pets to their own premises; making it necessary for me to find other excuses for my barking dogs." I am 100 percent in agreement with Jeanette, as I have found more or less the same problem wfth my own dog, which has been waking me up at 5:30 a.m. for the past week or so. In case you don't know your own dog, I will describe the ones running loose, so that you may take care of the situation. One is a little brown and white spotted female. Another brown and white one. A black shaggy dog, and two part collie type dogs. If these dogs are not kept within their own property, I will personally call the authorities to have them picked iqj.1 would rather have that done, than to have a friendly child bitten by these running dogs. Other persons have threatened to shoot these dogs if they do not stop bothering them. Hoping this will take care of the situation, I thank you, and Jeanette Everett. By the way, if you have to call your neighbor about their barking dog, please have enough courage to say who you are, and not make the person guess. Why be ashamed of calling about something over which the owner will be understanding? CHARIVARI J. TONYANS When out in the yard there arose such a clatter, they sprang to the door to see what was the matter. Know what all the noise was? It was the clanging and horn blowing out in the yard of Clara and Jerry Tonyan. The Card club and their husbands got together and charivaried them in honor of their fifteenth anniversary, which was earlier in the month, on Sunday night. The Tony an s invited the noisy crowd in and the party began. Games were enjoyed by the nine couples, with refreshments served later on. Joining in on the noise were the Leonard Freunds, the Rog Bauers, the Urban Bauers, the John Dohertys, the Bill Hamils, the Junior Tonyans, "the Clarence Stahls, the A1 Ottos and of course, the Jerry Tonyans. Frooi Si. 385-1424 McHenry, III. ; COUNTY FUNDS TO BE PLACED IN jBELVIDERE BANKS The McHenry county board of supervisors played the Good Samaritan last week when members approved the placing of McHenry county funds in,Boone county banks. Since January, County Treasurer, Cal Skinner, Jr., has been limited in depositing county funds .to the fourteen banks within the county. Now the four banks in Boone county will also serve as official depositories-- temporarily. Newly elected Supervisor Robert Robinson (Republican- Crystal Lake) made the humanitarian motion based on the experience of Crystal Lake banks following the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado. At that time public funds deposited by State Treasurer Bill Scott were quite helpful in bridging the gap between the time Small Business administration disaster loan applications were submitted and when they were finally approved. Because of the temporary nature of the possible need, the status of official depository will end Nov. 1 for the Boone county banks. Skinner was directed to ascertain what need existed and then to deposit such funds inthe four banks. It is known that the Farmers National Bank of Belvidere is giving interest-free loans to tornado victims. Froeen Foods Store all frozen foods at zero degrees or lower. FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regu* larly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. f3> For the sake o f h i s c o m m u n i t y a n d n a t i o n . < 4 ) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily. MSTMW When you're in high school and going steady, two can often live as cheaply as one. But who's thinking of econoinics? What is important, is that when Karen and Dave want to look into each other's eyes -- while sharing a milkshake -- something just has to give. Karen's straw, of course! Through the dreamy days of this budding romance they've been learning that lesson over and over. They know how to adjust to each other's moods . . . and cares . . . and ambitions . . . and hopes. Have they learned the greater lesson --the one that is taught in our churches, and in those homes where religion is real? Have they learned reverence for the spiritual and moral principles on which the sacred institution of marriage rests? Fleeting romances can endure for a while on bent straws. But honest, blossoming, maturing love demands of a boy and girl convictions that do not bend. Copyright 1967 Krister Advertising Service, tnc., Strasburg, Vtf.
