COUNTY MEDICAL, DENTAL GROUPS VIEW TAX ISSUE ® Members of the McHenry County Medical society and McHenry County Dental society cited their "responsibility to the people they serve" in issuing a statement today opposing the proposed state tax on their professional services. Both organizations have taken formal action opposing the tax proposal under consideration in the Illinois General Assembly now* Dr. R. S. Loewenherz,president of the Medical society, and Dr. Michael F. Gannon, president of the Dental society, in the joint statement urge citizens to write their Senators .arid Congressmen if they agree with the reasoning of the physicians and dentists. Concluded the leaders of the two county-wide groups representing virtually all the physicians and dentists in the county: "Physicians and dentists will be less professional men, and more clerical employees of the state government under the proposed legislation." Citing specific examples, here are some representative increases citizens can expect in their medical care if the tax is approved: New baby, $8 more; hernia opratibn, added $8; remove appendix, $8 more; family dental bills for the year, up $16; and office calls for three colds during the year, $1 more. COUNTY SCHOOLS REIMBURSED FOR DRIVER TRAINING Ray Page, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, has certified claims of ~ $4,- 964,350.26 for reimbursement to 690 of the 706 Illinois high schools participating inthe Illinois High School Driver Education Training programs during the 1965-66 school year. •Supt. Page reported that 152,- 258 students participated in the program. Of this number 116,- 136 took both classroom and practice driving instructions, with the remainder taking only classroom instructions. The prograip requires a minimum of 30 clock hours of classroom in-' struction and a minimum of six clock hours of practice driving. Supt. Page reported that of the 1,152 automobiles used inthe, program 1,049, were furnished on a free loan basis by automobile dealers throughout the state. Automobile manufacturers share the cost with the dealers- in providing these free loan vehicles in the practice driving part of the program. Of the cars used, 94 percent were equipped with automatic transmissions. McHenry County schools will be reimbursed in the amount of $51,832.84. The celebration was held in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Harrison, at Burlington, * Wis., Saturday, April 23. Her son, Robert Stevens, and grandson and also another daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Stanek, and,granddaughter of Stanely, Wisl, attended. On May 9, Mrs. Stevens entertained her birthday- club. PLAYGROUND ACCIDENT Little Dorothy Hofmann was injured while at play in the Spring Grove school play ground. She suffered a concussion and was taken to a Racine hospital. We are happy to report that she is doing fine and recovering nicely. TWENTY-FIVE GRANDCHILDREN Mr. and Mrs. Charles May have another grandson. The Charles May, Jr., family of Waukegan have added another boy. This is their thirteenth child. CHEERLEADERS AT MARIAN HjS. Girls from here who have been chosen as cheerleaders at Marian Central high school are Beverly Todey and Barbara Oinunings. HOSPITALIZED Robert Buehrer entered St. Theresa's hospital on Tuesday, May 9. He is a heart patient. Mrs. Buehrer had recent surgery on her foot and is still confined at home.
