May is the month set aside by the American Legion auxiliary to honor those mothers, wives, sisters and daughters whose loved ones were killed while serving their country. The winners, their mothers, and the eighth grade teacher from McHenry Junior high, James Doran, were also dinner guests of the auxiliary. NANAU, GERMANY(AHTNC) -- Barry L. Baker, 21,^onof Mr. and Mrs. Herbert A. Baker, 719 \V. Wegner road, McHenry, was promoted to Army specialist four recently in Germany, where he is serving with the 543rd Heavy Equipment Maintenance company. A supply clerk assignedtothe company near Hanau, Spec. Baker entered the Army in January, 1966, and completed his basic training at Ft. Jackson, S. C. He was previously stationed at Ft. Lee, Va., and WATER LEVEL GOOD Water - supply and soilmoisture conditions were generally good at the beginning of May, despite slightly belownormal spring rainfall, William C. Ackermann, Illinois State Water survey chief, reports. Rainfall has been deficient in most of the state for the last three months, February through April, but the spring totals are only slightly below the average in northern and central sections, Ackermann said. The greatest deficiency is in Southern Illinois, where totals are 3 to 3.5 inches below normal, or about 70 percent of their normal for these three months. MOBILE CHEST UNIT TO VISIT COUNTY MAY 26 The mobile chest x-ray unit will be operating in Woodstock on Friday, May 26, from 12:30 to 5 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. It will be located at the south side of the court house as usual. The McHenry County Tuberculosis association, sponsors of the x-ray program, suggests that barbers might wish to take advantage of this opportunity to have an x-ray, assuring themselves of their report before the July 1 deadline. School personnel could avoid the September "crush" by having an x-ray at this time or throughout the summer. The next scheduled visit of the unit is June 23, when it will be in Harvard.
