Raymond L. White, pastor of the Community Methodist church, opened the meeting with a brief period of meditation. During the business meeting which followed, officers and division chairmen gave brief reports of their accomplishments during the past year. Mrs. Florence Svoboda conducted the installation of officers for the coming year, and in some instances a two-year period. " Wig Party" was the title of the program which was presented by Karen Zoephel of Park Ridge. Mrs. Zoephel brought with her a collection of wigs and hair pieces, all made of silky human hair from Europe in shades of the deepest dark to the lightest platinum -- a wonderful way to have a quick and lovely coif. Delicious refreshments were served during the social hour that followed, with Mrs. Frank Prem on hand as tea hostess. Friday, June 9, marks the annual Salvation Army Doughnut Day. Once again the McHenry Woman's club has been asked to sponsor this event in the McHenry area. Mrs. Paul Jessup is chairman of the charity drive and is asking for volunteers to tag. The executive board of the Woman's club will meet on Monday, June 19, at the home of Mrs. Robert Thompson, 3803 W. The hours of the sale will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The duties of the Parents association is to function as a Booster club and to raise funds to help finance the drum corps for the season. This year the Viscounts Drum and Bugle corps will be fielding the biggest corps in its history, about seventy-five boys and girls, and much financial assistance will be necessary. The project of the Parents association for 1967 is to provide the Viscounts Drum and Bugle corps with new shirts. Any friend of the Viscounts who would like to donate rummage for this sale, please call Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Cooper, after 4:45 p.m. at 385-0479. All help will be greatly appreciated. These young junior members of the local Legion auxiliary have been advanced to the senior auxiliary. They are, left to right, Mary Pat Mrachek, Linda Kunz, Bernadine Reid, Bonnie Einspar, Eileen Homo White, Charlene Reid, Judy Hay, Patricia Harris and Carol Ann Zimny. 11th District Illinois Federation of Women's clubs at the annual meeting on April 27 hosted by the Aurora Woman's club. Mrs. Gerlitz was officially installed at the sevehty- second annual convention of the I.F.W.C., which was held at the Sherman House in Chicago on May 9, 10 and 11. Registered as a delegate from the McHenry Woman's club was Mrs. Frank J. Cans, second vice-president. It was a busy and exciting three days which proved meaningful and inspiring to those in attendance. The Woman's club expressed a word of appreciation for having been allowed to share in the proceeds of the McHenry Choral club's spring concert to the extent of ticket sales made by Woman's club members. Rt. 31, McHenry, will be conducted at Grace Evangelical Lutheran church, Woodstock, Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Zimmerman died May 22 in Memorial hospital, Woodstock. He had farmed in the Huntley- Woodstock area for fifty-- four years. Besides the widow, he leaves four daughter, Mrs. Marie Shutfer and Mrs. Elsie Kelehan of Woodstock, Mrs. Theresa Heimann and Mrs. BerniceBlakeof Crystal Lake. PIKE Charles W. Pike of 7510 Maple drive, Wonder Lake, died Monday evening, May 22, of a heart attack while at work as a dock foreman for Gumprecht Trucking Co. at Crystal Lake. He was 67 years of age. Mr. Pike was born in Wilmington, 111., Jan. 23, 1900, and had lived in Wonder Lake permanently fof the past twelve years, moving here from Oak Park. The deceased was a member of the Holy Name society. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; a daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Dorothy) Smith of Wonder Lake; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. James (Bernice) Edison of Oak Park and Mrs. John (Estelle) Kennelly of Chicago. The body rests at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home until Thursday morning at 11 o'clock, when Mass will be sung at Christ the King Catholic church. REDUCE RATES The Illinois Commerce commission last week approved a reduced rate for temporary suspension of residence telephone service, according to Illinois Bell manager S. ,F. Jozwiak. The new rate is expected to save customers having extended vacation periods -- such as college students and faculty members -- about $60,000 a year. Residence service suspension provides for the continuance of the directory listing, retention of telephone equipment on the customers' premises and interception of incoming calls to notify callers that the service has been temporarily suspended. ZIMMERMAN A funeral Mass was sung at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church for Frank L. Zimmerman, 82, of 3025 W.Lincoln road, McHenry, who died Thursday morning, May 18, in McHenry hospital. He had been hospitalized only twelve hours. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Zimmerman, a retired machinist, was born Sept. 11, 1884, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and had resided in McHenry for about eighteen years, coming here from Chicago. He was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Mary's church. On Nov. 11, 1919, he was married to Mary J. Zimmerman, who survives. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Frances) Harner of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Eugene (Loretta) Harner of McHenry; two sons, Girard J., of McHenry and Rev. Frank W. of Freeport; also eleven grandchildren. Evanston twenty-five years ago. He was founder and owner of O. Iber Co. Industrial Equipment and Supply Co. in Chicago, which was started in 1919. In McHenry, he operated Iber Porches on Front street for several years. The deceased was a member 7 of Rotary club I of Chicago, Berwyn L o d g e , No. 839AF & AM and Shrine Medinah Temple, Chicago. During the Korean war he was director of the metal working section, War Production board, in Washington, D.C., and at the time of his death retained membership of the executive • reserve of BDSA. He is survived by his wife, Iverne; one son, William Justus Iber, of Palatine; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body rested at the Peter M. I, PG. 3: BROTHER EUGENE SOHM A funeral Mass was sung last Thursday morning in St. Hyacinth church, Milwaukee, Wis., for Brother Eugene Sohm,S.M., 55, history and government teacher at Don Bosco high school in that city, who died May 15. He was a brother of Mrs. Harold Foss of McHenry. OSCAR IBER Oscar Iber, 76, of 2919 N. Regner road, McHenry, died Thursday morning, May 18, in Harvard hospital, where he had been confined for eight days. He had been ill for about a month after a period of failing health. Mr. Iber was born in Bremen, Germany, Dec. 28, 1890, and moved to this area from BENSENVILLE MAN KILLED SATURDAY NIGHT IN CRASH The county recorded a fatality on the highway about 8 o'clock Saturday evening when Guadalupe Cantu, 46, of Bensenville was killed when his car went out of control as he struck loose gravel on the shoulder of Menge road, in Dunham township, and crashed. A passenger, Jacinto Corral, 16, of Franklin Park, who was seriously hurt, told sheriffs deputies that Cantu was driving south, drinking from a can of beer, when the accidenfr took place. Deputies found several cans of beer and empty liquor bottles at the scene. The body was taken to the Geils chapel in Bensenville for funeral arrangements. The inquest is pending. McHENRY HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adkins of Round Lake are parents of a son May 15. On May 15 a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kiesgen of Fox Lake became parents of a daughter May 16. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Burger of Richmond welcomed a daughter May 17. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kretzschmar announce the birth of a son May 17. Mr. and Mrs.'EdwardStrauel of Wauconda are parents of a daughter May 19. ^ Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Burg announce the arrival of a daughter May 20. OTHER BIRTHS Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Thompson of; 4402 Greenwood road, Woodstock, announce the birth of their first daughter, Susan Mary, on May 12 at Memorial hospital, Woodstock. She weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz., and has two brothers, Robert, 7, and Steven, 5. The maternal grandparents are the John Hogans of Ringwood and the paternal grandparents are the Roy Thompsons of Greenwood. Mrs. Thompson, who until recently taught home economics at the Woodstock Community high school, is the former Charlotte Hogan. McHenry relatives have received announcement of the birth of a son, James Joseph Mahoney, III, to Mr. and Mrs. James J. Mahoney, Jr., of Chicago, their first child on Monday, May 22. Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Walter of Cooney Heights announce the birth of their third child and second daughter, Debra Ann, born on May 19 at St. Theresa hospital in Waukegan. Awaiting her at home are her sister, Linda Marie, 6%, and brother, David Paul, 5. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Eshoo and maternal greatgrandmother, Mrs. Anna Garr, all of Chicago. IN CAPPING RITE Lizbeth Boyd of 8412 Memory Trail, Wonder Lake, was among fifty-eight dental hygiene students at Southern Illinois university's Vocational-Technical institute participating in a capping ceremony last Sunday afternoon in the ballroom of the university center. She is a member of the class of 1967 receiving the associate in arts degree from Southern on June 10. • NEW EDUCATIONAL TOOL The state of Illinois is determined to develop a complete t e l e c o m m u n i c a t i o n s s y s t e m that will utilize the newest technological advances and set an example for other states to follow. "Our plans call for a statewide telecommunications network in which the principle factor will be an educational television system designed to reach into schools and homes throughout the state," Gov. Otto Kerner said in a talk before a meeting of the Chicago Area School Television, Inc., in Chicago. There are now four educational television stations operating independently within the state. Governor Kerner envisions these four stations integrated by a form of microwave interconnection to produce the beginnings of an educational television network. -ARROWS ELEANOR YOUNG Mrs. Eleanor M. Young, 65, of 3802 W. Maple street, McHenry, was found dead Sunday, May 21, at her home, where she had resided the past twelve years. Mrs. Young was born Dec. 12; 1901, in Chicago. The deceased was a member of St. Mary's Christian Moth" ers society, the Catholic Daughters of America and the D.C.C.W. Her husband was the late' Edward Young. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Eleanor) Wagner of McHenry; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Elizabeth) Schoewer and Mrs. John (Mildred) May, both of Waukegan. A funeral Mass was sung at 11 o'clock Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic church, with interment in the Church cemetery. Before that time the body rested at the George R. Justen & Son chapel.
