Mrs.* Norma Gunn, R.N., has been named the 1967 "Employee of the Year" at Lutheran General hospital, Park Ridge. 1 Now head nurse in the orthopedics section, Mrs. Gunn started as a staff nurse in orthopedics in September, 1960. She'was appointed head nurse in Aprif, 1962. "I think the most important thing about her is her enthusiasm4 »r patient care which she quitei Successfully imparts to her glSif," said Nancy Levene, associate director of nursing seryicfes. "Very dedicated to her;M(Sfession, she gets along weU sviih patients, co-workers anddooors." • Earlier this year orthopedics moved to Lutheran General's new west wing. "Thirty-two patients and the nursing staff were moved in less than two hours," Miss Levene said. "This is just one example of Mrs. Gurm's efficient way of doing things." "I guess one reason I like orthopedic nursing is that the patients usually stay longer and you get to know them better," Mrs. Gunn said. "You also have an opportunity to work with many other departments such as occupational and physical thereby." A teacher as well as a nurse, Mrs. Gunn gives in-service training on the care of orthopedic patients and on team nursing on both her own unit and others. A graduate of Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Gunn lives about five miles out of McHenry, where she is secretary of her homeowners' association. She enjoys gardening and quite often brings in tomatoes and cucumbers for other members of the staff. "On behalf of the hospital, I want to congratulate Mrs. Gunn on receiving this honor," said Robert J. Nast, administrator.
