This- is the major fund raising event for thell5yScouts of Lakeland Park and they deserve a good turn-out for the benefit of the scouting program. FISHING DERBY The fishing derby sponsored by the McCullom Lake conservation club began on Memorial . Day and will run through October 31. Only residents of the surrounding communities and their guests - are eligible to compete for the prizes offered. If you should catch a fish with unusual markings take it to either the' Corner Store in Lakeland Park or the Cullom- Knoll Inn in McCullom Lake for verification. Only properly identified residents will be eligible for the prizes and they must properly identify any guests who, have a prizewinning fish. Prizes will be given at the time the fish is verified. Xo fish are to be returned to the lake no matter what their size..So shine up the rod and reel or your old bamboo pole and get going! WOMAN'S I LI B" The last meeting of the season will be held this evening, June 1, at 8:30 at the community house. The ladies are invited to wear slacks or culottes as the proceedings will be informal! Plans are coming along for the annual smorgasbord sponsored by the Woman's Club on June 17 at the community house. Tickets are being sold by members and a limited amount will be sold at the door. Their last meeting of the year will be held on June 6. This will be a cook-out for the girls in Wickenkamp's back yard and will be over by 5:15. Xo dues will be collected at this meeting. The girls don't have to wear their Brownie uniforms for this meeting either. CUB SCOUT XEWS Our meeting last Tuesday at the Walter Xuss home for prospective Cubs and their mothers proved very productive for our Cub Scout Troop. Kurt Lauer has offered to be our Cub Master and Walter Nuss will be his assistant. Den mother will be Leah Nuss. There is still room for a few more boys in her den. . This week Wednesday, there will be a meeting at the Lee Mai home at 7:30 p.m. for all boys and parents in Lakeland Shores on the south side of Rte. 120. Don't wait for someone to call on you because we can't always know what boys are interested in Cubbing or what ages they might be. Give Barb Meurer a call at 385- 4356 and she will see if there is a den open or if there are enough boys to start a new den. Next week there will be a meeting for the west section of the park. Not sure of the date or place yet but anyone interested should call the above number. BOY SCOUT TROOP 459 Troop 459 will hold a green bar meeting on Thursday, June 1. At the troop meeting last week, there was an election for new patrol leaders. New patrol leaders are, Don Prazak for the Cobras, Mike Koch for the Bat patrol and Dave Wagner for the Flaming Arrows. The assistants are Gary Braun for the Cobras, Dave George for the Bats and Don Licastro for the Flaming Arrows. The Boy Scout pancake and sausage breakfast will be held on June 4. Tickets will be sold at the door.- The Juniors have been very ° busy catching up on the requirements for finishing badges that they have been working on during the season. Donna Humann and Shirley Meurer were hostesses for the last meeting and served the girls chocolate squares and popsicles„ They are busily planning aparty for the Brownie fly-ups on June 7. They are working on the invitations and planning refreshments and entertainment for* the evening. A meeting ofthe girls working on the cyclist b&dge will be held at Mrs. Meurer' s on Thursday afternoon after school. June 7 will be the last meeting of the current year. CONDOLENCES Our very deepest sympathy is extended to the Koch family on the death last week of Max's brother. BITHDAY GREETINGS Belated birthday greetings to Bud Walker who celebrates his birthday with parades and holidays on May 30. June 1 is birthday day for George Lauer who will be five and eligible for kindergarten. Bob Rode will be 17 and Julie Perry will add another candle to her cake too. Former resident, Cindy Kujak, will be 14 on June 2 and happy birthday to my Mom on that day too. Judy Johnson will have eight candles on her cake on June 3 and Mike Ketchum will have-five. His dad, Morrie, isn't telling but he'll be a birthday boy too. Mary Ann Krupinski celebrates on the sixth and little Agnes Holas will be three years old on June 7. Our congratulations to all on their special days. ANNIVERSARY WALTZ June is the traditional month for weddings and we start off with two wedding anniversaries on June 1. Agnes and Joe Prazak will celebrate twenty-one years of matrimony on that day, as will Alice and Jerry Sullivan who also have been happily married for twenty-one years. Grace and Rocky Campo will mark nineteen years of wedded bliss on June 5. Our best wishes for many more happy years of togetherness for all of you. LITTLE LEAGUE The first games of the season will be played on Friday evening, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. The Braves and the Pirates will play at the Major league field and the Cards and the Dodgers will battle it out at the Minor league field. Betty and Bill Bockman and the boys and Rich and Ann Wohnrade and their kids were there and to complete the party were the newlyweds, Susan and John Mansfield. The whole gang was there for dinner and^stayed for supper. They all got together and gave Grandpa brand new wall-to-wall carpeting for his home. Some birthday! Helen Strandquist attended the meeting of her Old-Timers Club at the home of Adeline Lang in Elmhurst last week. Bev Wickenkamp was the guest of honor at a birthday celebration in her honor given by Joan Bur man. Helping with the festivities were Delores Rogers, Mary Lou Wilkens,and Helen Brooks and their assorted offspring. Len Bottari was a delegate to the Knights of Columbus convention held this year at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago. Vickey accompanied him to the affair and they really had a good time over the weekend. Back inthe olden days when I was a girl that was really the place to go. Still is for that matter. Vickey came home with a good case of laryngitis! Get-well wishes to Ruth Mc- Mahon who was back in the hospital. She is a patient at Harvard hospital. Not to steal any thunder from So I Hear, but as Cub fans from way back we feel just as happy about their latest endeav- RINGWOOD NEWS DOLORES BRENNAN • 653-9043 HONOR HOGANS AT COMMUNITY SHOWER JUNE 2 Some neighborly ladies inthe community have gotten together and thought it would be a nice gesture to have a miscellaneous shower for John and Ila Hogan. As you know, the Hogans were victims of a tragic fire which left them homeless. There is to be a miscellaneous shower held at the Ringwood Methodist church on Friday evening, June 2, at 8 p.m. No invitations are being sent out, this is an open invitation to all persons in the community. Husbands and wives are both invited. You are asked to bring a dozen sandwiches per family. There will also be cake and coffee served. How about showing our friendly community spirit to help out a neighbor and friend? If you need any suggestions as g what to get, call Katie hristopher or Althea VValkington, since they do have many items needed to keep house. 8TH GRADERS HONORED AT DANCE There is to be a dance to honor the eight grade students of the McHenry Junior High, which includes our young people, Pam Low, RobinFossum, Bernice Miller, Larry Oonk and Bill Butler. The dance is to be held at the American Legion Home on Ringwood Road on Monday, June 5, from 7 until 10:30. This dance is open for the eighth graders only. Doris Low is helping on the committee, representing Ringwood's students. The dance is sponsored by the eighth grade parents. OOOPPS! COMMUNITY PICNIC JUNE 4 * As the last affair for this school year, the annual community club picnic will be held on Sunday, June 4, at the school grounds at 12:30 p.m. All community families are cordially invited to join your neighbors and friends for a good old fashioned picnic. It will be held rain or shine. In case the weatherman isn't too kind to us that day, the picnic will be held in the school. Each family is asked to bring sandwiches and serving utensils for themselves as wellasadish to pass. John Lanway has informed me that the community club will serve coffee, ice cream and potato chips.
