8, 1967 - PLAINDEALER - SEC. 3, PG. 7 ' • ( • : M^CULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE 385-4141 REPORT YOUNGSTER-Knollpres KICKED BY HORSE """ - - - - OUT QF DANGER Wee Jeanptte Straumaim, the 2&year old-youngster of Phyllis and Denny Straumann, came home from Memorial hospital , for McHenry County last Fri-, day, after being kicked by a horse, Friday, May 26. The little girl, and her two sisters and brother, werebeiig cared for by their Aunt, Delores, and Miss DeeDee Valentine while the mother was working. The two young women Had the children at a nearjby farm, where they are raising two yearling horses. During the evening; Jeanette escaped frafa her aunt, and wandered too near the one animal, which apparent- 7 shied at her presence, and kicked out sideways. The force of the kick, caused the tot to take a severe tumble. She suffered bruises on her back and injury to her head. For several days, she was in a serious condition, and had tobe fed intravenously. Her mother ministered to her In the hospital, and with excellent treatment, she was able to be released last week. She is still receiving medication and has not been released from doctor* s C3T0 'RUMMAGE SALE A WHOPPIN* SUCCESS The coffers of the Ladies of the Lake treasury have received a considerable increase, following the very successful rummage and bake sale at the beach last Saturday. Chairman Carrie Kurth appreciated all the wonderful people who responded so generously to the call for donations of money, cakes, clothing, and other bakery goods. Hie booperation received was unbelievable! The demand for bakery goods far exceeded the available supply. Sales were brisk, in the rummage department, also. Merchandise which was left over was given to the Good Will Indpstries. Bfrs. Kurth was elated with the? industrious group of women who worked both Friday and idem, Ray Lary. DeeDee Levesque led the audience in tfie pledge to the flag. Mrs. Donald Meyer placed the wreath on the Memorial rock while Dale and Mm Wilson placed another in the water. Because of a previous commitment in Bensenville, the Viscounts were unable to attend, and we sincerely missed them. Their outstanding performances, in the past, were remembered fay all who attended. Invocation was given by the Rev. \Thomas Johnson, Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, and the Benediction pronounced fay Father Guzzardo of St* Patrick's Catholic church. The main address was delivered by Commander Frank Ficek, of the Legion Post short messages from Commander Eugehe Kane of the Barracks, and Evelyn Ficek, president of the Legion Auxiliary. Only one flaw marredtheproceedings and that will be covered in the next article. MISSING PLAQUE CAUSES CONSTERNATION It was with horror, thatresidents of the community, became aware of the missing plague on the Memorial rock, bearing the name of James Vincent Tomasello. It is a mystery if the plaque was stolen, removed deliberately (which we would hate to think), or simply foil off, and was discarded inadvertently. At any rate, another has been ordered and will be installed as soon as possible. If malicious mischief took place, we hope the culprit suffers horrible consequences! INSPIRATIONAL SERVICE HELD MEMORIAL DAY May 30 dawned bright and clear, although a bit on the cool side, making a perfect setting for the annual Cullom-Knoll Memorial service. Theresa Schultz was in charge of the event, which was simple, reverent and meaningful. The various groups of the American Legion were on hand, including the rifle squad, the women's auxiliary, and members of the post. The members of World War I Barracks also turned out for us.
