Project Head Start Opens Next Monday Hilltop School Is LoasHon For McHenry Classes The Community Action agency for McHenry county announces a federal grant for a Head Start program to be in session from June 26 to Aug. 11. McHenry will be one at four locations in which classes will beheld. This program, a division of the Office of Economic Opportunity, is a summer project that prepares special groins of children to enter kindergarten in the fall on the same level with tfcsir psers. Although this program is flexible inthetypeof child 14 will accept, it is aimed at the cMM who is entering school this fall, less prepared than the typical kindergartener. TEN CLASSES The county-wids Head Start classes will be held at fta Washington school in Harvard, Northwood school in Woodstock, Hilltop school in McHenry, and West school in Crystal Lake. These ten classes will be taught fay experienced kindergarten or primary teachers from the local areas. Mother-aides, primarily children in the program, will be hired for each building to help the teachers. Volunteers will be assigned to varied duties dealing with the home, school orthe community. This program, basically a 9 to 12 ajm. class, will also include several field trips. Bus transportation will be provided Cor these trips, and will also be provided on a daily basis for those children who live out of walking distance of each school. Because all children are not expected to be registered in time for the first days of class, bus routes will be finalized sometime the first week, subject, of course, to change as new students enter. Call 385-2393. 6-22-67 N Opportunities Unlimited 6-22-67 Easter Seal Benefits From Future Events The women's auxiliary of the McHenry county chapter of the Illinois Association for the Crippled has scheduled two events, with proceeds to be given to the Easter Seal society. The auxiliary functions for the purpose of securing funds to assist with equipment and other projects at the Easter Seal Therapy center that cannot be forthcoming from the funds derived from the campaign held each spring. The first project this summer is a trip through the famed Waterfall House at Dutch Creek Woodlands, Johnsburg. The gross proceeds will go to the auxiliary. The dates scheduled are July 15 and 16 from l until 5 p.m. Volunteers will assist with the tour and registration under tiie direction of Mrs. Karl Koch. The second project will be, held Sept. 20 and will be the second re-sale sponsored by the auxiliary. The first was held two years ago and bacausa of the, demand, the affair was put on. schedule for every two years. The location has not been secured as yet. In other business, the auxiliary voted to pay for the blacktopping at the Easter Seal Therapy crater at a cost of $2,000, the lowest bid received.
