Members of the auxiliary ask that you support their efforts to aid the Mental Health center by purchasing a tag. The tags will show the symbol of the Mental Health Center for McHenry County which has been designed to indicate that the services of the center are for aid to the residents of the county. The auxiliary points out that 100 percent of the money collected goes directly to the Mental Health center and the funds are to tie used for services to county residents seeking help. Despite the fact that the Mental Health referendum has been passed, Mrs. Sue Kurtz, chairman of the womens auxiliary, states that as yet tax funds have not been made available to the center. A successful tag day will enable the center to help meet its financial obligations for providing mental health services to both children and adults. "Ten Nights in a Barroom", a 1918 temperance melodrama, will bring villains, heroes and fainting maids onto the boards for a weekend of declamation against the demon rum and its effects on the simple, honest man. This show was originally one of the most famous old-time melodramas. The humorous aspects of the show are generated from the difference in public attitudes toward rum and ways of life between the early 20th century and mini-skirted 1967. Mary Morgan, often referred to in the play as an "angelchild", floats down in the final scene to join her parents in their joyous reunion. And of course, Mortimer Greenbacks, a dyed-in-the-wool villain, who misleads all with his archfiend plans, receives his "just due" in the end. All the accoutrements of a good old melodrama will surround "Ten Nights in a Barroom". There will be a can-can line, a hobo soft shoe, a narrative rendition of the poen\ "Face cn the Barroom Floor" and aft old time rendition of the song, "Heaven Protect the Working Girl". The entire inside of the Opera House will be turned into the "Sickle and Sheaf Inn" for the play's three night run. A Dixieland band will play, thirteen usherettes will be dressed in tight pants, striped shorts, bow ties and straw hats, the front doors will be replaced with swinging barroom doors, and the Green room will be transformed into a bar room complete with sasparilla, pretzel sticks and hard-boiled eggs. The show will run June 22, 23 and 24 and curtain time is scheduled for 8 p.m. T H E CAROLA VIEHWEG Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mondry of 3116 W. HOW TIMES CHANGE To help battle disease the pharmacist today fills pre- ; scriptions with the most mod- • ern pharmaceuticals. 70% of these wonder drugs were unknown ten years ago. President Harrison died of pneumonia. Presidents Coolidges' son died of a blister on his heel...just a few dollars worth of drugs... common today, but unknown then ... might have prevented these infections. Today's prescriptions cost much less than a single day in the hospital. But more important, just one or two prescriptions today can guard many patients from disease and prevent long hospital stays. The marvels of electronics and transportation (great as they are) - cannot compare with the progress in medicine in the last fifty years.
