Hie guest speaker for the evening was Collegian Rachel Lomasny of Crystal Lake chapter who spoke on the qualifications for a co-worker to tiecome a member of the college of regents. We were privileged to have as a guest the Deputy Grand Collegian Magdalene Remsing of DesPlaines chapter. Collegians Ethel Hagberg, Alyce Kowal and Recorder Carolyn Sima attended Antioch's college of regents chapter night program, July 6. Twenty-five r -collegians were present. The three lucky girls from McHenry all went home with lovely gifts. Alyce Kowal is Delete Name Of Normal From State University As a result of legislation signed by Governor Kerner, Illinois State University has a new name for the second time in three years. . . but you'll have to look twice to spot the difference. In 1963, the Legislature approved a bill changing the institution's name from Illinois State Normal University to Illinois State University at Normal. The "at Normal" appendage, adopted to help in the name transition, was rarely used. ' In a bill signed into law by the governor, the "at Normal" was deleted and official name of ISU became Illinois State University. The bill was drafted in relation to legislation placing Illinois State and Northern Illinois University under the new board of regents. Both had been under the board of governors of state colleges and universities prior to July 1. Few if any changes are necessitated by the "new" name, since stationery, campus signs and other items carrying the ISU name have used only Illinois State University since the first legislation which was effective Jan. 1, 1964. The word, "Normal," was originally removed from the names of all the former "teachers" colleges, ISU included, because of its connotation of two-year teacher education programs. Illinois State has career preparation in numerous fields in addition to teaching, with four colleges, Arts and Sciences, Applied Science and Technology, Business, and Education, and degree programs from the bachelor's through the doctorate. It was in a green valley, along a river's edge in California that we saw an old gentleman panning for gold last summer. Our boys were ecstatic and insisted that we take his picture. We watched him for sometime, but he seemed not to see us, so intent was he upon the dredgings of his pan. Immediately the boys started a lively debate, speculating on how it would feel to be in the old man's shoes; still searching for a bonanza, still believing that happiness is found in vein or lode. As I listened to the enthusiastic conversation and watched the animated faces of our sons, I felt sad for the old man who looked for treasure in the sand. Our boys are already affluent in the joy that comes from loving God and serving His Church. This precious wealth can never be lost nor stolen from them, and may be any man's for the asking. THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . . . . A L L F O R T H E C H U R C H The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily. Copyright 1967 Keiittr Advertising Service,sInc., Stratbvrg, V«.
