The bridegroom is a graduate of Johns Hopkins university and the University of Chicago law school. He is now serving as a lieutenant, junior grade, in the U.S. Navy. Miss Lubinski Becomes Bride St. Mary's Catholic church in McHenry was the setting for a beautiful summer wedding on Saturday, July 22, when a nuptial Mass at 11:30 o'clock united in marriage Miss Joan Lubinski and Mr. Robert Conner. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clements J. Lubinski of 2616 W. Riverside drive, McHenry, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Conner of Spring Grove. Leonard Smycz of Chicago, uncle of the bride, was soloist for the ceremony. The attractive Miss Lubinski approached the altar wearing a gown of her own design which she also made. It was a sleeveless, floor length, A-line dress featuring an unusual cowl collar which stood high while a simple, floor length, detachable train hung from mid-back. The crown, also constructed by the bride, was a flat stand-iq> bow encircled with bridal illusion. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses. Attending the bride were Miss Fran Buttitta of Elgin as maid of honor, Miss Judy Fisher of Harrington and Miss Claudia Jenkins of Chicago as bridesmaids. Miss Buttitta and Miss Fisher taught with the bride in Barrington high school and Miss Jenkins was a college roommate. The three attendants made their bright yellow and orange abstract print, two-piece dresses. Bows of the same fabric were designed by Miss Buttitta. Yellow leather heels and dangling yellow earrings matched the A-line, floor length skirts and sleeveless, cowl collared over-blouses. Each carried a single long stem yellow rose. Ronald Livingston of Richmond served as best man and groomsmen were Ralph Schneider of Twin Lakes and Gary Christenberry of Hebron and James Lubinski of Glen Eilyn and Bruce Toussaint of McHenry as ushers. Mr. Lubinski is a cousin of the bride and the others are friends of the groom. For the wedding, Mrs. Lubinski selected a bright apple green suit with matching pink and green blouse and pale pink accessories. Her corsage was of pale pink roses. Mrs. Conner chose a three-piece, rose pink linen suit with white accessories and a corsage of darker pink roses. A reception at the V.F.W. clubhouse immediately followed the church ceremony, with about 175 guests in attendance. An untraditional banana wedding cake was tapped with fresh yellow, white and orange flowers. Miss Bea Kollian, roommate of the bride, passed the guest book. Hie couple will make their home in Sioux Falls, S. Dakota. The bride has been an English teacher in Barrington high school. The groom is quality control inspector for Modine Manufacturing company in Ringwood. The bride, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Prebonich, was given in marriage by her father to the groom, the son of Dr. and Mrs. L.L. Kagan of Sjpring Grove. The new Mrs. Kagan a graduate of Beloit Catholic high school and Spancerian college in Milwaukee, is employed as a secretary by the A.C. Supply Co., Inc., in Milwaukee. The groom is a graduate of Marian Central high school and Marquette university's college of speech. He is a disc jockey broadcasting the "Jim Kagan Show" from radio station WAUK in Waukesha, Wis. Thomas Frisbys Wed 68 Years Robert Frisby, daughter, Lenore, and Melvin Walsh were recent visitors in the home of the former's brother, Thomas Frisby, and wife in Oak Park and helped them celebrate their sixty-eighth wedding anniversary. Mr. Frisby, who is 95 years old, and his wife, who is 93, are in fairly good health and still able to maintain their home where they have lived for many years. The day was made more memorable for them when the priest from their parish, St. Giles of Oak Park, came to say Mass in their home that morning. Another added pleasure was the presence oftheir niece, Sister Marcellinus, and a group of nuns from Rosary college at Street Dance In Cary To Benefit Area Retarded A teen street dance will be held in the Cary-Grove high school parking lot, Cary, on Saturday, July 29, from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, or in advance, at the Cary bank. The dance is sponsored by the Country Pre-School Mothers Club for Retarded Children in Trout Valley, Cary. Proceeds will be used to alleviate the financial burdea for parents who might not otherwise be able to send their child to a special education program. A rain date has been set for Aug. 5. McHenry Girl Engaged To Wed The McHenry Garden club held its annual card party at the home of Mrs. Jules Gruenfeld on Wednesday, July 19, with about sixty people attending. Her delightful garden made a beautiful setting for the affair. The party started with a delicious Hawaiian salad and nut bread followed by an afternoon of cards. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Charles Wagner, 1205 S. Broadway, McHenry Stores, on Aug. 16 at noon. A light luncheon will be served, followed by a business meeting and a Garden Walk at some of the members homes. Please call in advance if you cannot attend. Recall Early Days At County Fair Dedication On opening day of the County Fair, Thursday, Aug. 3, at 3:30 p.m., the McHenry County Historical society will have a ceremony dedicating the historic log cabin now on the Bates property adjoining the fairgrounds. Rev. Clarence F. Kerr, Woodstock, will give the dedication. Members of the Gannon family, of which Ed Gannon, Huntley, is patriarch of the family and donor of the cabin, have been invited to attend; also members of the Bates family who have so generously consented to have the cabin placed on their property. Excerpts from the poem, "The Pioneers" written by Dr. Sanford F. Bennett, Richmond, will be read. Dr. Bennett is better known as the composer of ttie world famous song "In The Sweet Bye and Bye". He wrote the poem in 1908 and it was read by Fred Bennett of Woodstock at the fair grounds on Sept. 8, 1908. Hie occasion was the "Home- Comer's Reunion" which ran for four days concurrently with that year's county fair. A programme was given each of the four days. Rev. C.H. Wonder Lake Garden Club Enjoys Picnic The Wonder Lake Garden club had its annual picnic on July 15 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson of 3116 Park drive, Wonder Lake. The picnic was held earlier this month at Cary. Award Nursing Scholarship To Mary Sullivan Miss Mary M. Sullivan of McHenry has been awarded a nursing scholarship by the board of directors of the woman's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital. This scholarship is in addition to the three awarded earlier this spring by the board. Hie decision to give an extra one was made at the July meeting and announced by Mrs. William Landin, scholarship chairman. Miss Sullivan, a 1966 graduate of McHenry high school, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald F. Sullivan, 1917 N. North avenue, McHenry. She is currently in her second year of nurse's training at St. Anne's hospital in Chicago and is an excellent student. In announcing the scholarship, Mrs. Landin said that the auxiliary is now limited as to what it may provide in the line of scholarships until 1968. She said, "It is hoped that individuals or organizations interested in helping firie young people in a worthwhile career will offer some assistance toward increasing the auxiliary scholarships. "This is truly an investment in your future, the future of our young people and those who will profit by their knowledge and dedication," said Mrs. Landin.
