How can I concoct a good "homemade" silver polish? A. Procure a little loose prepared chalk from your druggist and make, a paste out of this by mixing with ammonia in a small jar. Rub this on your silverware with a rough cloth, rinse in piping hot water, dry it briskly, and the job is done. Or, it's possible sometimes to polish silverware without using polish -- just by , boiling a handful of rhubarb in a quart of water, putting your silver into this for Ave minutes, then rinsing in clear, hot water, and wiping dry! Q. How can I deal with an ink stain in a carpet? A. Apply a paste of buttermilk and starch to the spot, leave on for two or three days, then rinse and dry. If necessary, repeat the process. Q. When cutting meringue pies, how can Iprevent the meringue from sticking to my knife? A. By dipping your knife into cold water beforehand. Q. How can I restore a taffeta slip that has become limp? A. Sponge with borax and water, using a half-teaspoonful of borax to a half-pint warm water, and being sure that the borax is completely dissolved. Spongek the slip on the wrong side and, when nearly dry, iron on the wrong side with a moderately hot iron. Q. How can I clean stained kid shoes? A. Ordinary cuticle remover will usually do away with spots on ldd shoes when regular cleaning fluid isn't handy. Moisten a cloth with it and rub over the spots, which usually disappear in jig time. Q. How can I insure a good job of painting over enameled or varnished surfaces? A. If you'll first sandpaper lightly over the enameled or varnished surface to cut its gloss, this will make for better adherence of your fresh paint. HELP WANTED WHAT'S IN YOUR FUTURE? Sale of the building may be made at any time, but it was stipulated that the property be kept for one year. Approval was also given to proceed with bids to remodel the Landmark building so that the central administration can move into it before the beginning of the Ml term this year. The possible sale of the structure would not change these plans. In addition, bids will be accepted to remodel the kindergarten house on Waukegan road according to specifications of the architect. TEACHER'S AIDES The board also authorized the central administration to employ teachers' aides in selected class rooms to assist teachers who have an unwieldy number of pupils. "Other communities have ' found it is a fact that museums, art galleries, historic houses and buildings will attract people who then spend money for gas, food and lodging. "Throughout the county, communities are desperately. trying to save their historic landmarks before they fall before the wrecking crews in the name of progress.
