cHehry Shores BERNICE WILSON Jack Schmitt Family Returns From Camping The Jack Schmitt family is beck from two weeks of camping out andenjoyingthe wonders of nature. They went to Lake / Cumberland, Ky„ then Gatlinburg, Tenn., where they stayed at a motel for the night and toured the Smoky Mountain area. Karen made friends with a bear by feeding it a donut while Elsie and Jack stared in stunned silence so as not to frighten either one. From there to N.C., then Cape Hatteras where they were promptly attacked by mosquitos, then spent two days in West Mbreland, Va. Visiting the museums and trenches in Fredricksburg, Va., was interesting. On Friday they arrived at Alexandria and stayed with Jack's brother. While the bqys golfed at the Country Club the girls swam in the club pool which was mighty nice. A tour of Washington, D.C., and a trip to Arlington National cemetery to visit President Kennedy's grave, seeing the ocean from Delaware and lots of swimming in the Potomac River and then thoughts of coming back to the Shores. The weather was just perfect during the trip, which is a big help in camping out. SLOW DOWN Complaints have been coming in about speeders in the subdivision. COURT HOUSE QUESTION "Dear Sir: "I have watched with interest the many articles and the appetites were appeased the evening was spent playing cards, and after' losing again Barb admits she is a poor specimen of a card shark. Julie and Matt Zeimet drove to Lake Redstone, Wis., and had a view of the lake and the beautiful rock formations surrounding the water on Sunday. various commissions and plans that have been established in trying to come to a decision for construction of a new courthouse. "As an architectural engineer and contractor in McHenry county for the past seventeen years, I have some very definite opinions: ••1) To build a courthouse on the annex property would be wholly and totally poor planning for the future. The excessive cost of a high-rise building and the subsequent problems - space and parking problems as the county grows - will make this site overly expensive, even with the gift of $250,000 from the city of Woodstock. "2) The courthouse should be constructed on the outskirts of Woodstock on a plot of ground large enough to take care of future needs. The local Woodstock officials and business people from Woodstock proper are not interested in the other sixteen townships of McHenry county. It would be a shame for our grandchildren to have to tear down or abandon a new structure being considered today, but short-sightedly. AUGUST 10, 1967 - PLAINDEALER - SEC. 2, PG. 3 , , chased to allow a county build- "3) We must keep in mind ^ required, plus future and I think the city of Wood-^s^uflo,,,, ^ buildings, as stock, forgets this - that this>s ^ a courthouse owned and paid for by the people of McHenry county, that the people of McHenry county must first be* served - then, if convenient, also the city of Woodstock. Certainly, if I owned property on the square or if I was an attorney with my office on the square, I would prefer to be within walking distance. But, this is only for my personal benefit and not for the constituents of the other sixteen townships. "I am quite sure that if you took a poll of all the professional people -- architects, engineers, etc., within the county of McHenry, you would find that overwhelmingly they would tell you that it does not make good sense to build in an area where your land prices are excessive, where tremendous parking problems already exist - that it makes better sense to go where land prices are reasonable, where acreage of sufficient amount can be purrequired. \ "Yours very truly/ "Arnold N.
