ARTS-CRAFTS FAIR Cary's Seventh Annual Arts and Crafts fair will open with a premier showing to area business men and their wives on Friday evening, Aug. 18, at the Cary-Grove high school. The public is cordially invited to view the exhibits from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, and on Sunday, Aug. 20, from 2 p.m. until 8. Cary's fair has grown over the years from a small neighborhood event held in a model home to encompass nearly a hundred artists and several hundred pieces of work. Earlier plans called for each artist to offer three items for jsale. Whert it was found that many artists wished to show their work but not necessarily sell it, the steering committee decided to welcome all participants with the under standing that some pieces would be offered for sale. An entry fee of $3.00 permits the participants to show four pieces of work. The Women's Auxiliary to the Cary-Grove Hospital Assoc. is sponsoring the fair. Members are contributing their favorite pastries to be served in the coffee shop under the direction of Mrs. Elbura Mentch (Shirley) and an able group of junior hostesses. The Auxiliary extends a cordial invitation to the public to come and browse among the arts and crafts and then "sit awhile" and chat and enjoy the refreshments. RODEO SLATED The excitement of professional rodeo will return to the Illinois State Fair this year for six big performances, Aug. 11 to 13. Presented for the first time at last year's fair, it proved so popular it has been made an annual attraction. Two shows have been added to this year's performances to accommodate the large crowds expected. This year's events will be held at the new outdoor horse show arena inside the half-mile track on the northeast side of the fairgrounds. The rodeo has been enlarged and will offer a bigger purse to attract more of the nation's leading professional cowboys.
