Award Winners RINGWOOD NEWS DOLORES BRENNAN 658-9045 Ethel Groth, president, and Gerry Breede, junior vicepresident of the VFW ladies auxiliary to Post 4600, pose with awards which were presented at the 5th district meeting. Mrs. Groth received a citation for 100 percent membership for the year 1967 and Mrs. Breede received a check for first place in 5th district public relations competition, which was entered in the Department of Illinois competition and also received first place. APPLICATIONS FOR '68 AUTO PLATES AVAILABLE Application blanks for 1968 motor vehicle license plates are now available at various outlets throughout the state, Secretary of State Paul Powell has announced. Mr. Powell reminded motorists who wish to retain their present license numbers for next year that the deadline for their applications to be in his office is Sept. 30, and that the request for reassignment should be stated in the remarks section of the blank. Secretary Powell also called passenger car owners' attention to the new fee schedule in effect for 1968 registrations. The fees now are $8 for cars 25 horsepower and less, $12 for those over 25 horsepower but not over 35 horsepower, $18 for those over 35 horsepower but not over 50 horsepower, and $24 for those over 50 horsepower. Supplies of the application blanks have been delivered to automobile dealers, currency exchanges, notaries public, county clerks, newspaper offices and some banks. All information requested on the blank is important, Secretary Powell said, urging motorists to be sure to answer all the questions. The information includes the name of the applicant, street address city or town, zip code, township, county, this year's license number, driver's or chauffeur's license number, factory or serial number of the vehicle, and the make, year model, body style, number of cylinders and horsepower of the vehicle. An additional item of information now required is the owner's social security number. WALWORTH FAIR Everything is all set for official opening of the 117th Walworth County Fair, Elkhorn, on Thursday, Aug. 31. The fair board has worked since the completion of last year's fair to improve the grounds and organize an entertaining and educational program for all fair goers to see and enjoy. NEWLYWED SHOWER FOR HOGANS Georgia and Harry Hogan were honored at a newlywed shower held in the John Hogan home (Xi Saturday night in their honor. The young couple returned from their honeymoon in Hawaii on Tuesday and are residing with the John Hogans until their new home is built. Music was provided while refreshments were served, followed by a delicious buffet supper and cakes, decorated in honor of the Hogans. There were approximetly fifty per sons from the area. BIRTHDAYS Happy birthday to little Mike Hogan who will be 3 years old on Sept. 4 -- also birthday wishes to Mrs. Ben Tonyan and Betsy Fossum who share the fifth for their natal day --to Tom Low, on the seventh, also a happy birthday. -- SUCCESSFUL RINGWOODDAYS In spite of the drizzly weather, the Ringwood Day, held on Saturday was successful, due to the hard work of all. Doris and Walt Low motored to CHare airport on Sunday to pick 19their daughter, Linda, who had spent the summer with Donna in California. The Charles and Leonard Ackerman families attended a picnic held on Saturday at the Mc- Cullom Gun Club near Hebron. Clark SALAD LUNCHEON IS ENJOYED BY GARDEN CLUB The McHenry Garden club held its August meeting at the home of the president, Mrs. Charles Wagner. A delicious salad luncheon was served. Mrs. G.T. Snively, chairman of the Chicago Plant, Flower and Fruit guild, gave a report (Xi the annual meeting w'lich she attended. The resignations of the treasurer, Mrs. Edward Vilim, and the corresponding secretary and publicity chairman, Mrs. Fred Dodge, were accepted with regret. In both cases they are moving from the area and hope. to make garden club affiliations in their new locations. Mrs. John Korner'will complete the unexpired term of treasurer, Mrs. Herbert Rothering will handle the corresponding secretary's work along with her own job as recording secretary, and Miss Mary Burdahl will take over as publicity chairman. Following the business meeting, members toured the gardens of Mrs. Charles Wagner, Mrs. Robert Petersen and Mrs. Fred Dodge. The next meeting will be the annual luncheon meeting at the home of Miss Mary Burdahl, 806 Red Bud lane, Wilmette, (mi Sept. 20 at noon.
