A# ^SiEC./i - PLAIN DEALER - AUG. 31, 1967 left It started jto Warm up? We went u&jwi the observation deck and watched the big birds take off and I enjoyed it as much as the kids who had never been to CHare before. The Bill Pinkonsly, Jrs., home from their vacation took full advantage of a sunny Monday morning and went boat riding with friends, Frank and Donna Kacprowicz, to the Chain of Lakes state park. A picnic, vyhich included foot long hot dogs and home made cherry pie, was enjoyed by all. On the way home they stopped in Pistakee Bay for water skiing. Tuesday both families enjoyed a trip to the beautiful Milwaukee Zoo. The stunning landscaping and cleanliness impressed everyone. A stop at a farm was an unexpected treat for the children. Those Westphalians are hugh horses, the heads of %hich were as big as Bonnie. Water skiing was the order of the day on both Wednesday and Thursday when they were joined by out of town guests, Katie and Herb Brooke. On Thursday Bill Joyce and the children enjoyed a trip to the Hawthorn Melody Farms. On Wednesday evening they all delighted in the charming movie for children. ORCHIDS A big round of epplause to Bob Tanner who cut all the grass at the beach this week, this is the second time this season that Bob has taken care of this chore for the rest of us to enjoy. MEETING On Sept. 7 the McHenry Shores Club will hold its quarterly meeting at the VF W hall on 120, There will bendmination of directors at thisimeeting, so try to attend. Quite a few of our regular members have neglected their dues'-for the year thinking that the club will disband soon. So far we have not learned any more from Mr. Miller on this but Clarence Mueller tells me that he will contact him before our meeting to see what has progressed since June. Mrs. Bertha Quinn will be in charge as our president Doris Wetzel has moved and left us. Well, have a nice Labor day weekend and be careful if you are making a trip. Soon school will start and summer will be officially over but since we havent had any summer yet I guess we won't miss it too much. See you next week. Thanks to all the contributors for this week's column. MCHENRY SHORES WILSON 385-4880 MSSFAMILY ENJOYED TRIP ?0 COLORADO and Mrs. A1 Liss visited their son and daughter-inlaw, Leonard and Mary Ann, in Evergreen, Colo., the first two weeks of August. Following their return they had -fts guests their daughter and son-in-law, Rev. amTMrs. Carl Kort@, and daughter, Susan, of Brqokings, S.D. Over the week endLeonard and Mary Ann came in from Evergreen and their Alfred, his wife, Betty, and their five children from Chicago joined the group. To complete the family circle Mildred's only sister, Irma, and her husband, J.E. Paisley, Of Chicago, were also present to see their nieces and nephews. Mildred was particularly happy that the weatherman co-operatod, providing a sunny day so that she could serve a delightful buffet dinner on the patio. Because of the distances involved these get-to-gethers cant be an annual affair. BIRTHDAY GREETINGS Our birthday folks for this week are Tom Burke, Paul Schmitt, and Michelle Calvert on Aug. 31, Paul will be 12 add Missy will be 8, William Do&tal, St., and Clare Schubert on Sept. 1, William Verstege who will have 9 candles on his cake on the fourth and Christopher Quinn cm the sixth. ANNIVERSARIES Jack and Elsie Schmitt will be out celebrating their thirteenth wedding anniversary on Sept. 4, Congratulations and may you have many more happy years together. ROBERT MUELLER'S BIG ADVENTURE Robby Mueller and his cousin, Ronald Roth, took their first airplane ride when they flew to Seattle on the ninth, and were met by brother, Gerry, and taken to the base until the eighteenth when Gerry got out of the Navy. The three are now camping out in the northern states and Canada and are due back in September. Sure sounds exciting and Robby will have much to tell his parents when he returns; AROUND THE SHORES Marie and John Hinz spent a week at the home of their daughter, Shirley Hess, in Norridge looking after the house and the dog while the Hesses took a vacation in Iowa. While in the big city Marie got a chance to shop in the stores and see some of her friends that she doesn't get to visit with as much as she would like so the week went by much too quickly. Jesse and Ruth Ramage from Dolton, 111., and Si aind Itty Ramage from Louisville, Ky., visited the Ramages while passing through this area on the way back from Indigo, Wis. Joyce, Beth and Lee Lexow and I drove our California visitors to CHare on Thursday after their 12 day stay in the Shores. Guess they were happy to get back to the warmth of Modesto as some of the days they were here it sure was miserable and cold. Wouldn't you know that as soon as they EASTWOOD MI I10R FLORENCE LONG 385-3556 MANORITES PLAN ANNUAL PICNIC SUNDAY SEPT. 10 K won't be long before picnics, warm summer nights and vacations will be just a memory, so before that occurs, let's skip around the Manor and see what everyone has been doing. EASTWOOD MANOR PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION IBIS oat been sitting idle, as plans are being made for the annual picnic Sunday, Sept. 10 at noon at the baseball field which is for Manor residents only. A nominal fee will be asked and there will be children's games, adult games, baseball and, of course, refreshments. So let's end our summer with a fun-filled day here in the Manor. Gib and Carolyn Condon and family; Elmer and Charlotte Urban and Harry and Marge Brodin have their special memories after a recent trip to Wisconsin...Rick Wiegman and Gary Stohl had a memorable train trip to Fargo, Idaho, where they attended the Boy Scouts World Jamboree along with about 14,000 other Scouts from all over the world....Yours Truly and brother Ben DeCicco were guests of honor at a twin birthday celebration at the home at Elyse and Terry Harth of Mill Lace recently. Otter DeCiccos who helped celebrate were Pete and Caroline along with their "trite" Violet, Bill and Susie; Anne and Ben with Tommy, Johnny and Linda; Emmy and Denny Smith; Helen and Ernie Harth, and, of course, the Captain of this small crew, John. Judy and Bill Huemann stopped in after Judy finished duly at McHenry hospital. A lovely buffet supper was served and gifts exchanged. Dolores and Len Lawrence have some fish stories to tell of their recent trip to Wiscon- - sin. Understand they did quite ' well and brought back lots of fish. The Manor extends its deepest sympathy to Gustav Miller on the recent loss of his dear wife, Mae, after a lqng illness. May each day ease the loss you sustained, Mr. Miller. Our thoughts are with you. Let's not forget Sept. 10. We'll be there and hope to meet all you names. For now, SO-LONG. THE JOY OF LIVING Copyright 19$7 Keister Advertising Service, Inc. Straiburg, Va. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good ciii£€uship. It i*'*t storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. 'Hiere are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily. Ever notice how some people associate the joy of living with moments of care-free relaxation, while others seem to find equal happiness in both work and leisure? Which seems most natural? Was man created with the capacity for finding happiness in his spare time only or was he endowed with a genius for reaping joy from both work and play? Before anyone surrenders to the cynicism of the first theory, he owes it to himself, his neighbors and his God to give the second a real try. For^centuries the Church has been helping men to discover the deep and lasting joy of purposeful living. When your life has a purpose, linked to the Purpose of God . . . then every day reveals anew the joy of living!
