Richard Mikus is in charge of the band, choriis, physical education and coaching which completes the teaching staff. ADOPTIONS Charles and Dorothy Jacobsen, 3707 Ridge Lane, announce the adoption of her three sons, Jack, who is stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and the twins James F., n and John. NATIVITY LUTHERAN CHURCH NEWS Cleaning Days--Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9 in preparation of Confirmation on Sunday, Sept. 10. Pastor's information class will begin Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Pastor's study for those persons interested in membership as well as those persons interested in learning about Christianity and the Lutheran church, if you know of any interested party please notify Pastor Johnson soon. The new Sunday school year will begin Sunday, Sept. 10, when the children will return to regular- classes after having filmstrips shown while the regular teaching staff was given a two month vacation, July and August. BELATED BIRTHDAYS Candles were blown out on Aug. 29 by Midgie Cristy, daughter of the Jay Cristys, St. Francis Heights, and also to Mark Scheib, son of the Ken Scheibs, Oakwood Shores, who both turned 6 years old and cm Aug. 30 by Joe Sullivan, Jr., son of the Joseph Sullivan, Srs., St. Francis Heights who blew out four candles. FAMILY REUNION George and Amy Street, Kim and Kendall, St. Francis Heights attended a family reunion held in Downers Grove where they compare expanding waistlines, receding hairlines, new gray hairs, growth of children and then go home and cry. BIRTHDAY PARTY Kendall Street, son of the George Streets, St. Francis Heights, celebrated his tenth birthday, Aug. 21, by having his friends over for baseball and birthday cake. The birthday cake carried out the baseball theme with the candles as the players. Those singing happy birthday and enjoying Kendall's birthday cake were David Crook, Pee Wee Doyle, Wed Dicker, Rich Healless, Ricky Rupp, Kevin Coughlin, Rich Gaub, Pat Cristy, Steve Schau, Larry Wenkel, Jim Letizia, Ward Heinrich, Scott Gallas, and Bruce DePeye. MONDEK TWINS CELEBRATE 13th BIRTHDAY Matt and Marty Mondek, sons . of the John Mondeks, Shore Hills will celebrate their birthday, Sept. 7. BLESSINGS FROM HEAVEN The stork was hovering over the Lake this past week via Woodstock hospital stopping for John and Dorothy West, Oakwood Shores, who welcomed a boy, Aug. 23 at 9:55 a.m. Steven John, weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz., and is 20" long. Steve will be welcomed home by Susan 10 years old, Raymond, 6 years old and Pammy, 3 years old. The maternal grandparents are the Ray Bauspies, McHenry, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. West, resides in Indiana. The second stop for Cal and Darlene Beise, Wonder Center, who also welcomed a boy, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m„ Larry Leonard, weighed in at 8 lbs. 8ozs. and is 21 inches long. Larry will be welcomed home Mar'; almost 5 years old and Donna, 20 months. Hie maternal grandparents are the George Sorensons, Wonder Center, and the paternal grandparents are the Leonard Beises' Bab cock, Wise. Larry is the seventh greatgrandchild for the Fred Hansens, Wonder Center, the maternal great-grandparents. The third stop was for Ken and Joan Scheib, Oakwood Shores, who welcomed their third son, Aug. 27, Kurt Robert, weighed 8 lbs. 8 ozs., and is 20" long. Kurt will be welcomed home by Mark who turns 6 years old, Aug. 29 and Dana, 3% years old. WEDDING BELLS Miss Laura Bixby, daughter of the James L. Bixbys, Wonder Lake, and Robert Blockson will be united in marriage, Saturday, Sept. 2nd at Christ the King. CHRIST THE KING NEWS Last Monday, Aug. 28, a neighborhood Mass was held at the home of Mrs. Alice Condren, Wonder Center, at 8 p.m. Anyone who usually attended Mass in the church wjer^enceuraged to, attend this neighborhood Mass.^ If you would like to have a neighborhood Mass, please make arrangements with one of the parish priests.. Also, the bridge tournament will be held again this year in the school hall beginning, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. For further information call Mrs. Warren Lindgren, 653-6534. CHRISTENING Kimberly Elizabeth Diederich, infant daughter of Ronald and Pamela (Gabel) Diederich, McHenry, was baptized Sunday, Aug. 27, at St. Mary's, McHenry, Father Rudden officiating. Godparents were Miss Jeanette Gabel, Wonder Lake, and Jerry Thelen, McHenry, aunt and uncle of Kimberly. Kimberly was born Aug. 4 at the Woodstock hospital. A reception was held in her honor at the home of the maternal grandparents, the Ken Gabels, Wonder Center, and among those attending were the paternal grandparents, the Leo Diederichs, Johnsburg, and the maternal great-grand mothers, Mrs. Lydia Gabel and Mrs. Elizabeth Fiala, Wonder Lake. ANNIVERSARY Ken and Betty Gabel, Wonder Center, will celebrate 20 years of togetherness, Sept. 6. Happy anniversary, Ken and Betty, many more, too. FORMER RESIDENTS ARE VISITORS Roger and Ethel Hansen and daughter, Linda, Riverside, Calif., have been visiting with his parents, the Fred Hansens, Wonder Center, his sister, the George Sorensons (Norma), Wonder Center, and also his brother the Muss Hansens, and their families. BANNS PUBLISHED Marriage Banns were published for the first time at Christ the King for Miss Edith Grabovy, daughter of the Clemence Grabovys, Wooded Shores, and Ronald Freund, son of ^he Earl Freunds of Woodstock. The wedding will be performed Saturday, Sept. 16, at Christ the King church. RESIDENT-TO-BE Mrs, Lydia Gabel, formerly of Florida, mother of Ken Gabel, Wonder Center, has purchased the Cal Beise home on Birch drive, Wonder Center, and will make Wonder Lake her home within the next month or so. Welcome to the Lake, Mrs. Gabel!!! LEGION AUXILIARY NEWS The American Legion 1169 Auxiliary met Aug. 17 in the Legion home with newly elected president, Alice Rossberg, presiding. Invocation was given by Harriet Bennett, chaplain. Alice Rossberg and Betty Paulin gave a report on the state convention that they attended in Chicago. Also, the Auxiliary's Gold St^Mojth^r, Marion Tobin, attendedthe dinner honoring the Gold Star Mothers in the state. Six dozen cupcakes will be baked by Jackie Ullman, Betty Paulin and Lois Haak to be donated to the Children's Home in Woodstock with the usual ice cream. K was also report-. ed that the auxiliary donated a check to the Wonder Lake fire department. President Rossberg reminded the members of the county meeting being held in Fox River Grove, Friday, Sept. 1, at 8 p.m. and urged members to attend. Refreshments were served by Jackie Ullman v and Betty Paulin.. Hie next meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 21. Members are reminded that all dues are payable now. COLLEGE BOUND? BOVflM & NEWS TROOP 131 A court of honor was held at the Methodist church Sunday, Aug. 13, at 3 o'clock. The opening ceremonies were handled by the panther patrol, after which the following boys were presented with Tenderfoot patches and kneckerchiefs: Bob Hodges, Roy Taylor, Bruce Walters, Steve CHalleran, Scott Lundy, Charles Preston and Mike Clark. Advanced to second class were Gregg Alderson and John Matthesius and they, in turn, presented their mothers with pins. Ken Betts and Terry Brendle are the first boys in the troop to be presented for advancement to first class. After receiving their patch they presented pins to their mothers. Terry and Ken have both qualified for merit badges in canoeing and archery and Ken also has qualified in swimming. Prizes were awarded to Terry Brendle, Ken Betts; Bruce Walters, Bob Hodges, Kevin Hoak and Jack Weichmann for their splendid selling job of a few weeks ago. Tom Russell, chairman erf the troop committee^ then introduced the rest" of his committee: John Weichmann, Fred Matthesius, John Lescher, Bob Hess and Ted Beahler. The boys and men of the troop are grateful to Ted for all he has done for the troop and wish him success on his move to southern Illinois. It was announced that Bob Hess would be troop scribe, Terry Brendle would be troop librarian and Allen Holmquist would be quartermaster. The program ended" with the retiring of the colors, after which refreshments were served. FOUR STUDENTS FROM McHENRY ACHIEVE HONORS A total of 1,292 Whitewater State university students were ., cited by Dr. Cord O. Wells, vice-president for academic affairs, for achieving scholastic honors during the second semester which ended in May. Of these, sixty-four students achieved a perfect 4 point average or "straight A"; an additional 334 earned first honors, signifying a grade point average of from 3.50-to 3.^ and 894 were granted second; honors with averages from 3.00 to 3.49. Second honors were received by Lisa G. Petersen, 2719 Iroquois, Arthur R. Olsen, 1511 N. Park, Ronald L. Marshall, 2U1-.W. Fair view avenue and Timothy W. Farr, 505 W. North Blvd., McHenry. NANCY FISCHER TO RECEIVE MA DEGREE AUG. 26 More than 800 students will receive degrees from the University of Colorado at summer commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday Aug. 26 in the quadrangle west of Norlin library. Nancy J. Fischer of 3006 W. Charlotte, McHenry, receives her Master ^f Arts degree. The graduates of their families will be honored by President and Mrs. Joseph R. Smiley at a tea from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday in the University club. President Smiley will confer the degrees and Dr. Eugene E. Dawson, president of TeWle Buell College in Denver, will deliver the commencement address. Gov.- John Love will bring greetings to the graduates from the state. SESQUI CENTENNIAL More than 500 new observances have been added to the schedule of activities slated for celebration of Illinois' 150th year of statehood beginning Dec. 3. Ralph G. Newman, chairman of the Illinois Sesquicentennial commission, said that 1,500 events are now scheduled in the state's 102 counties. Walter Schwinner, Chicago television producer, said his camera crews are busy recording scenes for the hour-long Sesqui centennial network show. Actress Mercedes McCambridge is in Chicago and Springfield and Jack Benny will appear in Waukegan at the high school bearing his name for additional movie footage.
